Repton Birth GILBERT 11.12.1814 son of gilbert and Mary (Meakin???)

Gilbert born 1776 married mary meakin 05.10.1801....you already kniow this one.

Yopu might be interested in one or two Manchester cathedral happenings..

Gilbert Measham married Isabella Potter 23.12.1827 their son Gilbert 21.12.1834 married a Mary Ashton....at manchester Cathedral.

There is one more Gilbert born and married at St.Werbergh's Derby...

Been having nightmares about these bleedin' meashams for a year now!!! lol..have this perverted need to find Measham's at measham!! (Leics)

Hello Gooner...sorry not to get back to you..not been well....pity you already know about Emily Foster.because you've robbed me of a chance to shine!!

I bet you already know this but:-....Emily Foster daughter of Richard and Miriam..married Thomas Myring..don't know where or when, but that is no longer important.

By 1861 she is widowed and living back with her parents

In 1871 she is married a again to aThomas MEURAW aged 38 living with her daughter Emily Myring aged 11 and her widowed mother.

So i said Whoa this is my pain in the neck Gooner, and that name is ever so like MEASHAM!!
So i checked it out and of course it IS Thomas Horatio Frederick Measham baptised Repton 05.01.1834 son of our Favourite(!!) Gilbert and Mary

Would be great if you didn't already know this,,but of course you do........

Sorry to hear you have been poorly Derek. . I had no inkling that Emily married Thomas H F !!. As she linked in through another little twig of tree. Is this now right as this is how I see it.
Gilbert married Mary Meakin who then died in 1830 ?. He remarried Mary Parker in 1831 and had Thomas H F.

EDIT !!!! or according to another tree Mary Meakin did not die until 1860 so was she Thpmas H F's Mum ?

Hi Gooner.you're not waffling.....Gilbert did marry Mary Meakin....I have her death from Parish Records direct..ignore Ancestry Trees..and he married Mary Ann Parker and they had THF measham..who indeed did marry Emily..I'm glad you didn't already know that!!

Still looking for Mary Ann's maiden name!!!

Still haven't put on your MI's from St.Wystan's...bear with me.
EDIT 13.17..have you got the children of THF and Emily?? they moved to Etwall and he died 1906 Burton on trent.

Hi Derek, thanks for that I got a bit confused as I thought Mary Ann Parker would have been too old to have THF. I can now put this info correctly on my tree. Yes I have found the children of THF and Emily although obviously have not written them in yet until I confirmed info with you. This and other info will keep me busy updating for a little while and then I will gedcom to this site.LOL.

These are the sum total of all the Measham Inscriptions at St. Wystan's.
Clearly, now we know that various members of this notorious clan sided elsewherelike in Burton on trent, we haven't got them all..but these are the Repton ones.

You probably know these because you said you'd visited the scene..however, let's pretend you don't!!

Inside the church there is a Brass Plaque dedicating a window to the memory of ROBERT GEORGE MEASHAM and his wife EMMA HANNAH
It is the gift of Mary Measham who died 29.07.1914. It was dedicated 29.07.1904
This is officially MI no CH31

Said Robert George buried 27.10.1872 aged 67 and Emma hannah 12.12.1864 aged 57 are in PLOT D134


D259 and D260 contain SAMUEL MEASHAM 26.06.1817 and his wife MARY MEASHAM nee Thorp 12.09.1844 aged 67. and their daughter Mary THORP 12.09.1844 aged 67

This is interesting becasue i keep coming up against the THORPS in later measham history.

MARY MEASHAM (12.03.1914) who deicated the window and her sister Emma Doroth 03.04.1900 are buried together.

Thanks Derek of course there are no Gilberts they are in hiding LOL. I have photos of some of the headstones although there are loads in a thicket of trees that have been removed for safety and they are totally inaccessable unfortunately .I bet Gilbert was there laughing at us LOL .I have not made this Thorpe Connection yet although saying that I think THF boarded with Thorpe's on one census. I will go and take a look now and add edit

Edit. On 1851 he is a servant with the Thorps also noticed a Parker and a Dunnicliffe (Tunnicliffe????) on there. This needs further investigation me thinks !

Here we go!!..Thorps Parkers Dunnicliffe's..should have kept my mouth shut!..Bet i get lumbered with them!!! lol

Another poser for you..... I have looked on Free bmd for marriage of Willoughby TF Measham and found him marrying Ada Madeline James in Q2 1905. I also found death of Ada Measham June 1923 but on 1910 Willoughby's wife is named as Lillian is she one and the same she has the same birth year? Your valued opinion please Derek

Ji LA..you must have better BMD's than me cos all I have is Willoughby married Shardlow Derbys June 1905.you say 1910..do you mean 1911 census????

As for the Thorps..they appear to have been quite a large Farming family rather like st least one side of the Meashams..but at the moment i can't find the link between them.which appears to have been a marriage in about 1800.1810......I'm hoping that the Mary Measham involved might have been a sister of your elder Gilbert.......

It's a pity that the Repton Parish Records have never been transcribed onto disc, because then i could work out all the links......do you suppose that if we got back far enough then all the Meashams are in fact one family?? possibly back to the Measom/Measam name?

I found that wedding on Freebmd web site . He married Ada Madeline James and lo and behold now I have found he then married Dorothy M Parkins in 1910. Still not a Lillian though.. Oh silly me yes I meant 1911 LOL. Senior moment again. I do think the Meashams all came from the original De Meishams as does a Measham I contact who is a geneaologist. We have not yet found the link between my Gilberts and her Richards !! ONE DAY sigh !!!! I have an email of the story of the De Meisham family of Repton it was a copy of the Burton Observer and Chronicle dated November 30 1974. On there they start with Gilbert De Meisham 1066 - 1130.

Eyes light up to another challenge!!!!!! What Richards???
