I'm trying to trace the birth cert of ellen owen for a friend of mine. her d.o.b 6th sept 1918 in conway wales. she died 2nd jan 2005 again in wales her fathers name was thomas owen so far have not been able to get any further on i'm afraid thats all my friend knows i keep hitting blanks. anyone able to point me in the right direction.

Was she married? If so what was her married name?

The only death registered in January 2005 is for an Ellen Pritchard Owen. Could she have been born Ellen Pritchard? The birth date is given as 1910.

Hello,

I too am trying to find information regarding Ellen Sarah Owen(s).

I have an elderly relative who is now 87 and Ellen was his mother. We do not have any information other than word of mouth that she was young when she gave birth, 18 I think. Her baby was born in Kington Workhouse and she kept him for 12 months before he was handed over to his adopted parents at Kington Show.

If anyone can help Id be grateful.

Kington….where, please? Is it the one in Herefordshire?

Has your relative got his original birth cert?

If not, advise him to obtain a copy……….was he named David at birth?

Re the house Aramstone:

A house of about 1730, demolished in 1956. It stood in an 18th-century landscape park on the bank of the River Wye. Features included a dovecote, a walled kitchen garden with glasshouses, an ice house and a cold bath. There was an elm avenue.

Ellen Owen 1918 is the one Jan was asking about in 2008.
Ellen Sarah Owen(s) 1910 is (or at least may be) the one Andrea's asking about now.

I think this Ellen Sarah is born 1910 which is too early as I believe she was very young when she gave birth and was disowned by her family and was only allowed back to her family if she gave her baby up for adoption.
So very sad.

There is no birth of an Ellen Sarah Owen or Owens anywhere in England or Wales between 1910 and 1926.

There are several Sarah Ellens with surname Owen - though none later than 1915.
Also several Sarah Ellens with surname Owens - but none later than 1920.

None in Kington reg district - though of course there's no reason to assume she was born in the same place as her son.
None anywhere in Herefordshire.

Andrea says the man has his original birth cert- it may prove helpful to know exactly what info it contains

So the one born in 1910 wasn’t 18 when David was born which was why the confusion adding to an old thread

David can access his adoption records for its info which would help his search

I'm convinced that Sarah Ellen 1910 is the correct one.

In another PM, Andrea says that in 1937 Ellen was living at 5 Wylcwm Street, Knighton.

Having searched for that address in 1939, I see that Sarah Ellen 1910's mother Alice E Owens was at 5 Wylcwm Street.

Andrea also says that David was born at 7 Kingswood Road, Kington.

Looking at that address in 1939, it's a "Public Assistance Institution", with large numbers of patients, inmates, and staff.
In other words, a workhouse equivalent.
