Janet 693215 Report 31 Aug 2008 11:26

But Denis, I don't want to order the full certificate I just would like to see the birth entry for my Nan's brother and sister.
I have to admit I haven't used SP since the days when you had to use your credits in 48 hours.

Janet 693215, not certain what you mean when you say Scotlands people is great unless you want an event in the last 100 years. I managed to order an extract of my own 1946 birth certificate successfully.

Debbie, I suppose if you have the details you could always have ordered direct from GROS without going back in to Scotlandspeople or even ordered from the local Registrar, which often results in the extract arriving in just a few days.

I did contact them and they said it should be here by the end of this week so fingers crossed it comes today but not holding my breath, it's so annoying because i'm waiting to find out if my mother in law has brothers she knew nothing about and this will confirm it or not. Thanks Debbie

Update got it today at last and it confirms what i have been looking for well worth the wait

Need to vent too!!

A couple of years ago my friend ordered a certificate on my computer. Now every time I go to GRO her name and address comes up and I have to change it. I guess my email is registered to her address and that's fine.

Recently, I ordered a short certificate. I changed the name once again. However, I received a FULL cert sent in my friends name but to my address.

I didn't want a full certificate as I already have it... I specifically wanted the short one to check the wording *shaking head*

Cheers Gerry

Hi All :-)

Have come back down to earth.

I have certainly learned a lesson & now feel OK with sending of for certificates in the future. I just had one of those days yesterday when nothing seemed to gel & I couldn't see the woods for the trees - I thank you all once again for all your help & p a t i e n c e.

Of course there are good with the bad for any site. Debbie whilst I have had huge success with Scotlandspeople more for the fact that up to a certain point you can download and see instantly & allows me to move on straight away instead of waiting to confirm a family line - I admit I have not as yet had to order a copy for snail mail purposes. 5 weeks is shocking - Agreed that at least 2-3 weeks for the English ones isn't to bad - [especially as I live OS].....hopefully you receive them soon or make a complaint.

Cheers ~ Steve.

I've had no problem ordering certs from England but with Scotlands people i had to pay £6 to get credits which i didn't need as i already had the cert number info already then pay another £10 for the cert and i have been waiting for 5 weeks now and it still hasn't arrived, at least the English ones are a lot quicker to come.

Hi Steve

I must admit it is about 6 months since I last ordered a certificate ........ we've been away so much that I didn't want certificates sent while we were absent.

I just tried to get into GRO.

I did have to enter my email address ..... and then had to find out which password I had registered. That took two tries (good job I keep a record!!).

Then I got in with no problems.

The password I use is one that I myself registered 3 or 4 years ago.

Why not try to change the password GRO has given you for one of your own design???

There is a facility for doing that.

Steve it only asks for more details than just the GRO ref if you dont tick the yes box that you have the GRO ref, Its easy to miss that box.

Hi All :-)

Looks as the orders finally went through OK. Thank you for all your extreme patience - help & suggestions.

In my humble opinion the site needs to be more user friendly...if adding more details for each selection voids the order why in the world have it...yep the less detail option worked a treat....sadly my headache isn't a treat at all...will go and curl up after all this ~ Hopefully my orders turn out to be correct...or that sinking feeling will return.

Cheers ~ the usually happy [sometimes whingy] - Steve :-)

If you would like to put the details, i will try and place an order for the cert as a test.

Steve, if as Janet says it is within the last 50 years you will need to enter a date, otherwise, just enter the details found on the BMD index after clicking "YES" on is GRO ref known? and no more.

You may be trying to put too much information in, very little is actually required.

EDIT just seen your last post, date of death is NOT required after clicking yes for is GRO ref known.

I think I have been so caught up in this it is hard for me to think straight...thank you all for your patience.

I have the details - district - volume - page - etc....the G.R.O. filling in says it is in error unless I fill in the correct details for th dd/mm/yy....the death is for 1929...am I in the wrong part of the site???

P.S. Scotlands people is great unless you want an event in the last 100 years.

Janet 693215 Report 29 Aug 2008 08:00

Is the event in the last 50 years? I have heard some say you need the date for that.

Are you putting in that you know the reference number?

Ask someone if they can look up the GRO ref no for you. I'm sure some nice person will look on the indexes on ancestry for you.

Steve Report 29 Aug 2008 07:55

Now it is sending me to other parts of the sites with $$$ signs for more information needed. Sigh ~ I still think this is the worst site ever....'Scotlandspeople'...I bow down to you.

It went well till I get to the dd/mm/yy part 'error' - all I know is the years of death....this is the point of getting certs...help ~ it wont accept until bar this one minor detail is rectified. What do I write???

Nope :-(

Sylvie the site ~ sends me to 'type' in 'email address' and then 'password'...definitely states 'error' when no password is entered and will not progress any further - 'zip'...but when I type in the passwords they send on to me containing 8 characters which they stress should only be of 5 to be acceptable [yet still send to me] ...still no success - what a site.

Steve.
