Oh dear, sorry about that.

I meant that I didn't find Elizabeth with the surname Day in 1891, but I did find Elizabeth and Alfred Winter(s) in 1891 and 1901. They're in Shepshed in 1901.

That's how I knew Alfred was a widower - his children by his first marriage are living with him and Elizabeth.

That Elizabeth's age does fit my Elizabeth Day, and some of her children's names are those of her sisters (Louisa and Janet).

Did I read it right you have NOT found Elizabeth on the 1891. Census ?

Yes, I was just looking at the censuses, and I think I've got the wrong marriage.

That Elizabeth Ann Day from Henshaw Street seems to have been the one who married Samuel Weston, whereas my Elizabeth Day is the one born in 1861; in 1881 she was living with her uncle and aunt, my great-grandparents William and Maria Pool, in East Bond Street. Her parents were Henry Day and Rebecca Pool.

She isn't in the 1891 census under the name of Day, but I've now found a more likely marriage; her age fits in 1891, and some of her children have the same names as her sisters.

This marriage took place in Leicester in the 3rd quarter of 1884, between Alfred Edward Albert Vaughan Winter(s), widower, and Elizabeth Day.

It wasn't at St. Margaret's, which is where Alfred married his first wife, Jane.

I'm interested in finding out what happened to Elizabeth, because all the rest of her family seem to have died young (one of her sisters was the Louisa Day who had all the Freer children who died in infancy you found for me ages ago). She and her sisters were taken in by my GG-grandparents Hannah and Joseph Pool when their mother died.

Ancestery as her as Elizabeth J Day
But my Index Census returns Disc down as Elizabeth A. Day

On 1891. Census Elizabeth & Samuel. after their marriage Cert No 7 a 335.
are living at No 3 Henshaw Street.
Which seems a better match ?

Could be St. Mary’s Parish Church a better choice for marriage ?

Most of the family got married at St Margaret's, but the marriage isn't listed on the David Mann page.

In 1881 she was living in East Bond Street, so maybe All Saints.

Don't waste too much time searching if you don't have it on a conveniently searchable disc, though.

I gather York take several weeks; Cardiff are supposed to be quicker, but I haven't tried them yet.

Another easy one.....

Gone to " Paxo "....flown the nest...lol :o)

Was hoping it would give clues as to where the children are. Can't track anyone and one son left for America again 1906. On the Ward side, I want to know where the case of stuffed birds are my rellie left to his son!!!

Re Wills .....
1st. port of call would be the Probate Office in Leicester.
My friend although Probate is not his specialized subject recalls that he believes that there is a search fee of £5. to prove that a will was indeed made.
Further expenses to see what the will contained . .....

I’ll have a look at the Records Office…BUT
It will have to be next week as the Records Office
They are on a 48 hrs Industrial Dispute withdrawal of labour ( Wed & Thurs) this week.
And I cannot change my other commitments.

Have found some Moore's at last and was wondering if you could check if there is a will for Thomas whilst you are at the Records Office, here's his burial

I 565 F MOORE Mary Elizabeth 1909 APR 2 60 BORO' ASYLUM Leicester 51685

In 1901 they are in Grove Road. Am on a learning curve with wills and any hints how to track them down would be appreciated!

Would you blame me for looking for an easy way when my lot give me so much trouble?! What I really need to do is regenerate my gran (Emma Edith Goadby 1892 - 1986) - I know for a fact she had some of the answers, I just didn't listen at the time!

I've followed your link, but wouldn't you know it - the image is from 1890 and my lady died in 1884!

I presume the Admission and Discharge Books are in the Record Office. Sounds like time for a day off and a trip over, although we are coming on Saturday to look at St Margaret's, St Mary's, the cathedral, the Newarke Houses and anything else we can fit in.
