I start with the letters I can read - for instance, head, son, wife, mar, unm, single, parish where they are living - lots will be born there - and have a look to see how consistent each letter is - and then try to read everything else that the enumerator has written before attempting to read what he has put about my family - sometimes it becomes clear, sometimes not. Also, see how Ancestry and FindMyPast have each transcribed the info. Cross-check siblings names against the BMD info - the registrar's clerks tended to be tidier and more careful with names and with their writing. |

yes interesting and they had a sevant.. I know that Horace died just after Jessie was born... Then along came my granny ruth she was not wanted and some of them went into a home.. are there home orphanage records about... Blimey this is exhausting but fun. xx |

Jagger and Kezia are fairly rare names, so you can fairly quickly decide whether census listings refer to your ancestors. Unfortunately, Phillips is not a rare name at all. |
