can anyone tell me how to find out what parish a particular village or town was in so i can get parish records? sorry, this is a really basic question! |

Parishes are attached to churches............most villages have only one, but towns can have several......... |

Jo - try 'Google' - add the name of village and see what comes up. |

If it was a long time ago most villages often only had one parish. The parish would be part of the town or village and not the village or town being part of the parish. |

according to census records george robert brumhead was born in welton-le-wold, lincolnshire in about 1840. i am after his birth and hopefully marriage. |

Born in 1840, his marriage will be on the GRO index. Have you tried freebmd? |

wow, you guys are amazing!!! i had him on the 1881 census but couldn't find him on any others, despite trying spellings including bromhead. he was married to emma wankling (know that cos of daughter emma's birth cert) but we didn't have any further dates or info on their parents except emma's mother was called esther (also from census). i am so impressed at what you have found so quick. i have been looking on ancestry.com at census records and didn't find what you have - where do you look? |
