Did you actually enter the word NONE in all the other fields? That worked for me.

Oh brilliant Jennifer - thanks to you I've now been able to transcribe the shipping info for my OH's rellies from the 1800s that i missed out on when that free access the other day stopped!

And as it allows access to the american papers too - found a marriage notice in New York for one of his rellies too!

Thanks for the info/advice!

Sorry, Ina, I haven't a clue what the problem is. Maybe try a different browser?

In case anyone hasn't noticed, the trial includes a database called British Newspapers 1600-1900.

If you search the older newspapers (17th/18th c) don't forget that "s" may be written as "f" and "ss" as "fs", so for example you'll need to search for "mafter" instead of "master" and "mifs" instead of "miss".

One of the branches of my tree is full of Black Sheep. That is the name I always look for first.

I have just discovered that my own great grandfather spent a year in prison doing hard labour.

Oh dear......it's a good job my grandmother didn't live to find that out. I spent my childhood hearing about what a great man he was.
