It is possible that they married in Ireland, but his wife Mary was born in Liverpool according to 1881 and 1891 census |

Just been looking in the 1871 for Martin, now seeing as Sarah was born in 1872 i can't see him so wondered if Martin married Mary in Ireland & maybe Sarah was born in Ireland |

I had the same problem on my dads side. Nan was the youngest of 3 - some of the family suspected she had arrived a little early - in fact so had her older sister - they married 11 years after my nan was born - not even sure he was her real dad! |

For Sarah to have had Martins surname he would of had to either been married to Mary, or wait for it Mary told a porkie and said they were married |

From the 1891 census. I note that in 1901 he was working on the docks so maybe he started by working on board ships ? |

Sorry Laptop dancer - I don't know how to find those references. The only one I could find was the RG number I put at the top. |
