This has happened to me yesterday and twice today, I didn't associate it with GR as I'm often on the site - but now I do! All day today I have been downloading anti-virus and anti-malware. It has been a real nuisance - the first time my computer has been infiltrated like this and very disappointing to find it has come from GR. What are the anti-malware and anti virus applications which were zapping the trojan before it hit the computer. Can anyone recommend a good one? Mine just stepped aside and let it in.

I hope that Genes put something in place to prevent this happening again.

How do I get in to delete this if it is a cookie?. I know I can go into Tools Internet Options then I can delete cookies, but not individually, but the whole lot. I never do that ´cos to be honest I really don´t know what a cookie is. Someone suggested Rosalind´s thread on Blocking Cookies. Anyone know where it is?

My AntiVir program has just detected the virus SWF/Dldr.Gida.A. This the second time in the last few days and has happened to my wife also when we open email replies from Genes Reunited. It seems to be associated with redirection to the site http://quinquecahue.com/statsg.php?u=1201095192&campaign=rxalopecia.
I have read on other antispyware blogs that Genes Reunited couldn't care less and simply recommend that users keep their antivirus software updated.

What's to be done?

Dave on family tree forum has put a solution on that board for blocking the site on your computer: Copy and paste the following link into your address bar.

http://www.familytreeforum.com/general-discussion/38396-has-anyone-been-gr-today-5.html

l have to say I do worry about this site, if its not opening our trees to all and sundry its doing other weird things - I still havent had an explanation how someone got into my account and changed my name to something mildly insulting. GR said not possible, but I know it happened and several others on here saw it too. I know someone on here said they thought disgruntled techis working on GRs server make mischief and GR poo pooed that, but I have to say, it is getting worse all the time.

Ive just logged on and as I went to switch boards got the same virus. Norton stopped it but it's happening all the time lately.

I'm on my son's laptop at the moment and I can't see a key for taking a screen shot. I have seen such a key on the main computer keyboard, but I'm afraid I know little about computers and wouldn't know how to do it even if I was on the main computer.

Really hope this is sorted out soon, or I will not be coming onto Genes for a while.

Just logged on to Genes and got attacked by the Virus, Norton stopped it but my husband wasn't too happy as I am on his computer.
Going to leave this site alone for a few days I think.

I think it is unfair to say that GR are sitting on their hands - they need hard evidence if they are to track down the cause of the problem and the best way to collect this is to let them have screenshots when the problem arises.

This is why Errol has kindly agreed to collect the information from members so it can be sent over to GR in a co-ordinated manner.

Also see Rosalind's thread on blocking Cookies - make sure that you add the rouge sites to your exceptions lists.

Will everyone please check Errols thread on General, GR Response - and help.

Errol is asking that if it occurs again, please take a screen shot and send to him, see thread for details.

If you have hit the cancel button and not the X you may still have downloaded the performance eoptimizer. Run a search on your drives.

I think you will find that when you delete those cookies and then come back on here it trys to redirect you again.

That's what's happened to me.

Hi,

I used to be able to view my cookies but then I changed to Vista.

I don't seem to have the option now to view them.

I CAN delete them but can't see what is there?

Does anyone know how I can 'look and see' before I delete?

It might be worth looking at your cookies list. If you see either performanceoptimizer.com or quinquecahue.com delete them.
