So, if William Jones Whitworth married Mary Garstang in 1871, he can't be the son of William Whitworth and Mary Jones because they didn't marry until 1866. |

You say you are v sure William married mary jones. If you do not have any children's birth cert where did you find her name? I just find it strange that there is a marriage to Mary Garstang and he has a visitor named garstang in 1881. If HIS name was William Jones Whitworth (and it is William J on the census) it is probable that all the children would have the name Jones Whitworth. Plus no children born between 1866 & 1871. |

This is "Sue's family" in 1871 but it can't be William Whitworth and Mary Garstang because they weren't married yet. I had previously posted Mary, still single, in 1871 with her family. |
