Hi Reg,
Is it likely he would have been taken in as a nurse child if his father was still alive for feeding etc. If they were taken in as a nurse child would they still have kept their name?

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for offering your advice I already had the details of this birth but Reg wasn't convinced it was the right one so I haven't ordered it yet I believe his mother was probably Rose Phillips they married in the Midhurst registation district but it wasn't in the Singleton Parish church. I am thinking that perhaps tomorrow I could look in the surrounding parish churches and see if I can find their marriage and I was also thinking I could probably look for possible older siblings in Appuldram parish church seeing as that was where they were living and there are no others baptised in Singleton to these parents but there is a six year gap between marriage and Albert's birth. Other than that I'm not sure what else I can do it's just bugging me a bit where they disappeared to on the 1901 as when he marries he says he's of Singleton to me that sounds like he probably never went far.

Update
Managed to get the marriage details of Albert Baker to Rose Phillips today. They married on 4th July 1891 in Harting, Sussex. Albert was 27 Bachelor of West Harting. Rose Phillips was 19 spinster of Uppark, Sussex. His father George Baker, Carpenter.
Her father George Phillips, Carter. Have managed to follow Albert back through all the census but am struggling to be able to do the same for Rose. Could someone please take a look for me and see what they can come up with found a couple of Rose's in sussex with father George but none definately tie in with the Harting area.
Thanks for any help.
Clare

P.S. I have now found Albert Baker father on the 1901 back with his parents.

Hi Claire,
Thanks for those, they look very interesting, I wonder why I didn't find these earlier the nearest ones I found were out Hove way and I wasn't convinced these look much more promising. Will study them properly once I've put the little one to bed. I hope to go back to the records office on thursday so hopefully I can follow this up then.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I have now found my Albert Baker the son he was living with Rose's parents and siblings on the 1901.I was wandering if anyone could find the family claire found for me, on the 1871 as I have found them on the 1891 and 1901 and claire found them for me on the 1881. I have found the childrens baptisms now and Eliza was baptised in Pagham, Sussex in January 1871 and so should be with George and Ellen Phillips, but I couldn't find them. They were living in Aldwick, Sussex at the time of the baptism.
Thanks for any help.
