I think that the 1841 age for Ann is incorrect as everything else fits.
I would also say that George could well be her uncle as there is one born 1770 in Barkby with parents Thomas and Mary and a John born to Thomas and Mary in 1773 - from the IGI.

From Diane

Have been trying to establish the relationship of Ann Steele nee Ilston to George who appears in the 1841 census with her. I do not think that George is her grandfather but more likely her uncle. Have found the following baptism records for Barkby with parents Thomas and Mary Illston.
1 Joseph 17 April 1768
2 George 20 November 1770 which would fit in with the 1841 census ? uncle
3 Thomas 02 October 1772 possibly Ann's father
4 John 06 march 1774 ? married Ann Needham in 1799 in Queniborough
5 Winefred 05 January 1776 possibly married William Cook in 1797 in Syston
6 Mary 09 October 1777 possibly married Edmund Hopewell on 6 Ju;y 1802 in Syston
7 William 15 August 1779

Looking at the baptism record I found for Ann Illston 1812 in Syston on 29 November 1812 her parents were THOMAS AND MARY not beyond the realms of possibility for Thomas to be a father at 40

Hope this helps let me know what you think
Best wishes
Diane

Hi Dianne

Many thanks for all the info.

I believe that you are probably correct in assuming that George is Anns Uncle, but I am not sure wher exactly in the tree he fits yet......

I know that MY Ann was born 1803 and not 1812 (although I suspect that Ann IS a relative somehow......MY Ann is :
Ann Ilston christened 15 May 1803, Barkby. Parents John Ilston & Mary.

And, I believe that this is 'John' : John born to Thomas and Mary in 1773 - from the IGI.
also : John has a brother: - George - (Anns uncle) (?)

So I really need to find details of other children born to John & Mary Illston and I alsoneed to find details of Johns parents (Thomas & Mary) other children......if you /anyone would like to help with this, it would be most appreciated.

Kind regards
Gill

I have knowledge of three Anns born in the area of Barkby - Ann Ilston christened 15 May 1803, Barkby. Parents John Ilston & Mary.
& Ann on 29 NOV 1812 Syston,
with parents Thomas and Mary
& Ann on 28 JAN 1810 Syston, Parents Edward and Ann

Were they all called Ann Illston - does anyone know?

I really need to be totally sure, which is MY Ann, who married James Steel - I may post another thread & ask some 'eliminating' questions.

Unless anyone has any ideas?

Gill
