Sorry to disagree, Debbie, but census returns do not state relationships other than to the Head of the House hold.

So Sarah is Wife to Cornelius

The children are son/daughter to Cornelius.

The relationship of children to Sarah is not recorded.............

To be pedantic ;-) it isn't stating she is the mother only that she is the wife and their relationship is to the head of household, who is their father.

Before you all get too carried away with the earlier Makepeace family



Debbie does indeed have most of the information on Cornelius and his parents etc, including some very interesting mis-spellings!

That was all found earlier in the week.


As I'm understanfding it, she wants help in determining whether Sarah is the children's mother.


Which she apparently is NOT.


Therefore, who is the children's mother???


I hink Debbie will have to find the birth of at least one of the childrena nd apply for the certificate.

They recently did a big update so any you did a while ago might be worth rechecking. We are also currently double keying the records to make them more accurate.

Debbie did not give any indication in her request that she was seeking to determine the identity of the childrens' mother....

Nor did she tell us that most of the info had already been found.............

I think the ages are on the 1891 Census are WRONG.

I ahve looked on the image, and they have been transcribed correctly.


But there is no way that the children can loos ages between 1891 and 1901, which is what they do!!!

If the 1901 census is correct then Sarah is their mother, all the dates fit!
