Mick - I'm aware that there are many places in the UK where you could be sitting such that almost all the UK was "overseas" - Lerwick, Kirkwall, Lindesfarne, Sheerness, Hayling, Cowes, Holyhead, Biggar, Rothesay, Tobermory to name but a handful. However, this isn't the sense that the GRO uses "overseas", nor most people either, I would think. |

I looked at Rootsireland.ie which contains one and a half million death records from all over Ireland. |

Thank you so much for that, and thanks to everyone. With a long lost Auntie like this there was always the hope that she had survived and married and had children, and I had lots of unknown cousins to find out there but of course this was always the most likely explanation. |

Thank you so much Clover- that is absolutely marvelous! First entry is spot on my family. I have his complete Army record and nowhere does it say he ever went to Ireland! |

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you should think drowning in the UK might qualify as an "overseas death", but anyways, one can purchase certs (or cheaper still, the uncertified images of the rego) via: |

No, people have checked Scots ppl for me - say no record there. He was stationed in Jamaica and Malta, but that should show up on overseas deaths I guess. Thanks Mick |
