Hi Reg.
Yes His year of birth could be wrong. but the one you found looks like him. Thanks for your help
Reg could you have a look at the 1861 and see if he has a sister called Mary. This lady called Lynne has kindly found James on the 1871 census with a lady called Mary Hampson.. I know James married a lady called Ada Louisa Brich in 1866 and I cant find another marriage for him berfe this date.
Thank you for your help
Jane

If he married Ada in 1866, he wouldn't be on 1871 with someone he had married previously...........

That should be right but he kept on leaving his wife for some reason. He wasn't with her on the 1871 or 1881 census. and I know he died before 1893 as he was described on his daughters marriage cert as being deceased. I don't know exactly when he died.
Thanks

Ozibird Thanks for your help too.
Reg this is what Lynne gave me earlier for the 1871.
There is an Ada Hampson shown as niece on the 1871 census with what looks like the Furness family. Also staying at the same address were James Hampson aged 23 Bus Guard (brother in law) and Mary Hampson (sister)
Could this be coincidence and could he have been a bigamist ??
Lynne
I thought this was my Ada and her father James but I don't know now. AS for his occupation it is a known fact that he lied about what he did for a living. On the marriage cert he was a Solicitor. Somewhere else he was noted as a Stoke broker. KNow one knows for sure what he was.
As for him being deceased maybe she just disowned him.
Thanks ladies for all your help
Jane

Relationship is to the head of the household. James is brother-in-law to Edward Furness & Mary is sister to Edward. I would say they were husband & wife.
