Julie could i also ask a small question, what site do you use to obtain your information, only i recently had a findmypast subscription which expired in September but i didnt like the fact that it has no access to 1901 census etc.

I am looking at taking out another sub soon but dont know wheres best to get one...i have had a look at ancestry but it appears to be quite expensive, i have heard that they sometimes do offers or discounts but dont know how i can get an email or similar as to when these are going to be...

Do you have any ideas?
Thanks
Ceri

You can sometimes get Ancestry at 20% discount, you could try bartering.
2 alternatives
A) take out Ancestry on monthly subscription £9.95 a month but at least you don't have to find a oad of money in one hit
B) you may find your local library has Ancestry on their computers free of charge

Thank you Julie
Your a great help as usual!!!
Any chance you could see if Henry and/or has an occupation listed, where they were born and what relation Nk is to them?

Any idea what name Nk may be, as far as i am aware they had a daughter in 1891 named Annie but unsure wether Annie is Nk!!

Thanks again

HI Ceri,

I've managed to get the computer back.

I have to say that I don't know how people manage to do family history without Ancestry. I know it sounds expensive but it isn't much more than £1.50p per week and I always get my subscription for Christmas from hubby.

Have you tried the 14 day free trial? I didn't use it myself and some people worry about cancelling at the end of the 2 weeks, but I think Ancestry are very fair and I'm sure you would be able to cancel if you contacted them in plenty of time. That way you could see if you think it's worth paying for - although I and many other people will tell you it definitely is.

Thanks Kath
I have been doing mine and my fiancees trees for about a year now, and have managed to get by, with my full sub to findmypast and some help from the like of yourself. However i dont like asking you kind people for information if i can help it, as i know how time consuming it can be sometimes!!! I used to have a thread where i offered to help others, inclding those with hardly any details at all which obviously took up many hours sometimes!!

When i first took my sub with findmypast i didnt know much about anchestry, however i certainly think i shall be looking into it for future research.
Thanks
Ceri

I used to use Findmypast (when it was called 1837online) about 4 or 5 years ago when I first started my research. This was before they had subscriptions and you just bought credits. It was also before Ancestry had most of the things they have on it now.

I bought credits in £25 lots and I can tell you I spent literally hundreds and hundreds of pounds in my first year looking up BMD's.

After that the subscription to Ancestry doesn't seem so bad, and I use it every day - even though I'm not really doing any of my own research at the moment.

Don't worry about asking for help - there are always people on here willing to do look-ups. I do it just to pass the time these days, as I'm sure others do too.
