Hi all

I have had a few replies from one of the contacts found and it seems after compareing our information we are searching for a different family of Livermores even though some of the names match which is a great shame.

I am still waiting for a reply to an email I sent to another member. But it is still looking that I am really no closer to solving the mystery on Edwin William Livermore. Shame.

Hi everyone.

Ann has asked me to put this thread to the top of the board as she couldnt find it. She thinks she may have found my Livermores on a passenger list.
Fingers crossed.

Ancestry now have the incoming passenger lists. Told you Dionne, that they should help! I hope this is the family

Traveeling from Natal to London, on the Braemar Castle, arriving 13/7/1914

Mrs Edith Livermore wife, 36
Miss Edith Livermore, 6
Miss Dorothea Livermore, 4
Master Edwin Livermore 2

No husband mentioned though. Don't think we had Dorotheas mothers name before, so I'm sure it helps!
Don't remember Edith, the daughter, either!

Dionne Report 20 Oct 2008 18:07

Wow Ann

I think this could be them.

As you see Dorothea is there with her sister Edith.
If you remember Dorotheas sister was called Edith Constance Livermore . She chose to be known by her second name of Constance.

We also have the brother Edwin who Dorothea never ever spoke about. I am going to have to go through all my research to checkout the dates etc.

I see they came over to this country in 1914,wanst this when Edwin senior came out of the Army? But we are still none the wiser as to where he went to.

There is still so much mystery surrounding this family but I am hoping that I can now tell my father the name of his grandmother.

As you know I work long hours in the week so I really cant spend a great deal of time on this until the weekend. I am so excited and cant wat to get going again.

Many many thankyou's

Must admit I'd forgotten about Constance! Didn't he come out of the Army in 1912?( from memory - I haven't checked). I wonder if Edwin had died, but then why is she calling herself "wife?" Wonder if she remarried in this country as she had 3 young children.

Is it possible that Edwin travelled back with his regiment and the wives and families travelled back separately.

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 20 Oct 2008 18:54

I was wondering whether Edwin was part of the ships crew?

Hi Dionne

Great to see some more info being added - what a great find by Ann! :-)))

I did post this info back last year and it does kind of match with the child Edwin so may be worth getting?

I've been reading this most of the evening and I'm only on page 26.

Please give your Dad a hug from me His story is reminiscent of my own Dad's in certain aspects. My Dad was the unwanted baby and was made to suffer for that. His Father beat him and mentally abused him and after his father's death his brothers in law were called upon to chastise him.

Thankfully, my Dad was able to break the cycle but his childhood left him emotionally scarred for life and I think ultimately contributed to his death because he stored everything up inside.

The whole reason I started looking into my tree was that I needed to know why my dad's father was a bully.

Dionne

I know that you had some connection to Worthing when your thread first started as i remember offering any local help that you may need (& I've read your thread with interest ever since).

I have just rung the Worthing Reference Library who confirm that they have Electoral Roll details for Goring in 1956 - if you would like me to pop in & look up 111 Nutley Crescent, please just say.
I work in the town & it would be no problem at all.

Good Luck, Sue
