Dionne

Check out the address for RAMC Museum and also the Army Medical Directorate and write to them instead - They will be more likely to reply to you and are more likely to have access to the answers you require.

Not sure if the below is of any help to you.

There are often delays in the issue of South African certificates. The British High Commission cannot take responsibility for these. Also, due to possible errors in manual transcription, we might need to see a photocopy of the original vault copy held by the Registrar’s Office.

This is from the British High Commision website.

Wondered if this could be of any use.

Hi Dionne.

Have you tried the Salvation Army? They use to help with tracing people some years ago as a friend of mine was very lucky with there help. It is worth asking them, but I not sure what they do now.

Dionne Report 11 Jan 2008 21:37

Good evening everyoone.

I might have had a break through today. I called the
Army Medical Services Museum that Nicola so kindly posted details on. I spoke to a really helpful gentleman in the research department for over half an hour and explained the Livermore story and the need to know where Edwin was stationed in South Africa.

I explained about finding no death certificate for him in this Country and the need for the birth certificate of Dorothea. Also who Dorotheas mother was.

He explained that soldiers were moved all over South Africa. If Edwin had been an officer then there would have been records on him.But Edwin was only a corporal. I read as much information from Edwins Army records that I could understand. There is a section on the records about medals received but it only uses abbreviations so was hard to understand.

He was so interested in my story and asked that I send copies of Edwins service records directly to him and any other information that I might have. He wants to personally go through the records and will do some research for me.He wants to help me as much as he can.

I have spent a couple of hours writting a letter with all the information that has been gathered.I have copied records and and a few certificates.Everything is now ready to be posted first thing tomorrow morning.

So fingers crossed we might just get a result from this.

Thankyou for your information Brenda.

I spoke to the South African embassy and without an area of birth in the country they cannot issue a certificate.
