Hi Laura

Perhaps you would be better starting a new thread of your own as your question might get missed being put on Dionnes thread.

Put the information you have so far, as in which area they come from and John's occupation perhaps, if you have it from George Doody's marriage certificate.

I am sure someone will try and help.

Gail.

Today I've searched records of pensioners of Metropolitan Police. I searched for those who left the force Jan 13 1963-23/2/1967, and I'm afraid Edwin Junior wasn't listed. So, I suppose he must have retired either before or after these dates. The forms didn't give much personal info anyway, but they do give birthplace. I suppose his might just say South Africa, rather than giving the actual place!

If he was ex RAF and then went on to be a Police Officer, I wonder if maybe he joined the Ministry of Defence Police - so many ex-Service personnel do that? Just a thought?

Yes, that's possible. I've only assumed he was in the Met - we don't know for a fact!

Hi Ann,Nicola and Wayne

Ann bless you thankyou again for trying.I cant beleive this Livermore family!!
That could be a possibility with going into the ministry of defence police.

I have re witten the letters to the few contact addresses I had in the Livermore family and will send letters again.I thought about calling them but I am a little uncomfortable with that at the moment.

But I really dont know where to go from here.

Dionne,

When you're stuck again, can you do a summary of which loose ends you still need to tie up ... as although you have legions of "fans" I think a lot of us find it hard to know what you are still seeking.

Perhaps a summary which you could edit and paste again would help us all !! I know it changes quite fast... but just on days when you think you can't pursue anything else and are looking for something to do!!!!

I know I feel I've got stuck (and I'm working on 4 different people's trees, not just my own) I then find a couple of days later I get inspired in another direction.

I'm sure you're delighted with what you've been able to find, but know there is "more out there" !!

regards

Diane

(ps to those who nudge this for fear of losing it, its in "my threads" in the yellow "top tips" box on the left hand side!! )

Hello All
I had to post this information for you before I go out and get the weekly shopping.
GREAT GREAT NEWS...........

Do you remember my dads father Herbert Sloper went to Wales with his daughter Jean Ann? Jean Ann married and had a daughter named Pamela. She would be my cousin. I wrote to Pamela many weeks ago. Today I received a letter from her. It was a wonderful letter.

She apologised for taking her time in replying but after talking to her two children they encouraged her to write thinking it was a wondeful idea.

She told me that her mum never spoke of her family. Her mum use to live in London and then in later life after settling in Wales she did nursing training.Jean Ann always thought that she was an only child.

Pamela remembers meeting our grandfather Herbert Sloper when she was a teenager. She said he was a very strict man and use to stay over the Christmas holidays. She was as excited as me now knowing that she has an uncle (my father) and a cousin. She grew up thinking her mother was her only family.

She said that when sorting out her mothers things after her death she found many old photos of her mother and our grandfather. She wanted to know if I would like some of them. She also wanted to know if we could continue contact.

Well as you can see I am also so excited about this latest development and I cant wait to contact her again.I did try to obtain her telephone number but it is ex directory.

I then tried to obtain the telephone number for her daughter Elizabeth Leach but it seems she has moved from the addres of Eveswell St Newport as there is no Elizabeth or Andrew Price listed at that address. So it looks like I will have to reply back in the old fashioned way of letter and pen.

I am taking my dad out for dinner tomorrow.I cant wait to tell him about his niece and the information that she has supplied me. what is even more wonderful is she wants to stay in contact and know more out her extended family.

I will pop back again later to do a summery as best I can for Diane.
Have a good day all from a very excited Dionne

Dionne I am soooo pleased for you - I want to give you a big hug!

Did you mention Judith and Patricia (adopted sisters I think) in your letter to her?

Really thrilled for you,

Selena

Dionne Report 1 Dec 2007 13:28

Hi Brenda and Selena.

Thankyou so much for your replies.

Selena I didnt mention anything about the other sisters in my letter to Pamela.I kept the leter pretty short and to the point as I didnt want to give many details that might shock the family.

I am going to write another letter to her this weekend and I will give her some more details on my family. She is very interested and excited to hear about her Uncle(my father). In time I will tell her about all of the information we have all found. Dont forget I have to tell her about her grandmother Dorothea who she never knew. My God how do I begin with that one, lol.

I couldnt wait and went and saw my father this morning.I gave him the news and really wasnt sure how he was going to take it.But do you know I was plesently surprised. He took the news really well and seemed really happy knowing that he has a blood reletive out there that can possibly give him further information on his father.

I explained to him that it is exciting for me to know I have a cousin and that I will be contacting her again but I respect his wishes if he doent want to take things further on his side of things. I left with with lots of things to think about but more importantly I left him happy.

Now Pamela had two children

Elizabeth Urquhart Born newport 1975
Elizabeth maried Andrew Leach in April 1996 Newport.

The address for Elizabeth and Andrew at Eveswell St Newport acording to directory enquires has them down as not there. So they must have moved but I dont know where to.

The second child

Simon Justin Urquhart was born Newport 1972.I havenot found a marriage for him.
I am now trying to find an address for him in the hope that he may have a telephone number that is not ex directory so that I can contact him to obtain Pamelas phone number.

So any help from someone that might have access to directory enquires would be great.

Many thanks
Dionne

I'm not sure it's a good idea to post peoples telephone numbers on such a public site. Those would have been better in a PM to Dionne as she is the only one who needs this info?

Dionne Report 1 Dec 2007 18:08

Hi Bob

Thankyou for the information and trying for me.I do agree with Wayne also if you find any personal information like that then please send it in a private message. But I do thankyou again.

I have called the numbers of E Leach and A Leach.Unfortunately they were both the people were not the ones that we are looking for.

As I said earlier it looks like I will have to communicate by the old fashioned method of letter writting. Many thanks everyone.

It also seems that the people I have contacted by email and family trees on Genes re the Livermores are not replying to me.I really do think that I am now close to giving up on what happened to Edwin Livermore when he left the Army.

Do you think I might get any further if I wrote to the Army as I do have his service number. They must know what part of South Africa his regiment would have searved in.Its only an idea but does anyone think it would be of any benifit to write? Ideas on a postcard please, lol.
