Hi everyone.
I have some free time over the Christmas/New Year break and am inviting you to send me all your brickwalls and family history dilemmas. No guarantees I can help but I will give all requests a red hot go!! Thanks to Cherilyn, Kerri, Danielle, Don, Helen and others who have kindly offered their help with various kinds of lookups. I don't just do lookups but try to find out as much as I can from a variety of sources, both internet-based, and library-based. I have been able to help a lot of people in the past, please feel free to have a look at the previous posts on this thread. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hi Andrew, I am hoping you are still on Genes reunited as I have a dilemma that at present seems unsolvable. I have been trying to find my GGMo. I'm not even sure if her name is correct. My current info is: name: Maria Catariena Oelsdorph (Oelsdorp, Oworp, Oldoph) husband: Ernst Paul Honicke 23.04.1861-5.12.1938 children: James - dec @17mths Twins Albert & Elsie dec @ 4mths Frederick Charles (my GFa) and perhaps one other son
I assume that Ernst and Catariena were married in Germany before they emigrated to Australia
The family emigrated to Adelaide from Hamburg Germany in 1890 on the Erlangdon .They live in Adelaide for 7 yrs before Ernst moved to Broken Hill. I don't know if his family was with him but he was in BH for about 11 yrs then moved to Melb where he was naturalized in 1909 so he could take over a pub in Port Melb. By this time he was widowed. My GFa was living with him, Albert was in Unley SA and he stated that he had another son at sea. We don't know who this son was but we were always under the impression that one son had run away to sea at some stage. I know that Ernst died of TB at Waterfall Sanatorium in Hurstville NSW in 1938
I think I have given you all the info I have. I do hope you can shed a little light on this problem as I would then be able to complete my Dad's side of the family.
Thank you for your time
Amanda Honicke

Hi Andrew,
Not sure if you've been snowed under ...but if not ...
I am searching for the descendants of Matthew Rutherford who went to Queensland on the Ship Ormonde in May 1926.
Matthew married a lady called Mona Louisa (surname unknown) and they had 3 girls named Lorraine, Ann(e) and Carol.
I am related through Matthew's maternal grandfather (John Shepherd, b1860 in Carlisle). Matthew's mother was called Margaret (Meg) Rutherford (nee Shepherd).
It would be great to get in touch with that line of the family and share research.
Update : It seems Mona and Matthew are buried in Pinaroo Cemetary in Brisbane. Matthew died in 1963 and Mona in 1994
Best wishes
Mark

Hi Andrew, This is a long shot. I am looking for any records of a William Harding who married Florence Emily Allen, in Somerset UK. They sailed for WA in 1913 and settled in Denmark WA. in 1915 Florence gave birth to a daughter at Albany Hospital, She died a week later. The baby named Laura was looked after in Denmark for a few years, ..... now this is where I am lost.
Supposedly William took Laura and went to either South Aust or Vic to stay with rellies. Then supposedly he sent Laura back to Somerset to be reared by family there.
That info is rather vague as I have no proof of any of it. I wonder if you could find anything about them
Anything would be appreciated.
Thankyou for your offer.
Eleanor.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks very much for your generous offer of lookups. I have two brothers: James Rammell b1848 London & Edward Rammell b1850 Bedford who sailed out to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia:
Family Name First Name Age Month Year Ship Port Fiche Page RAMMELL EDWARD 63 JAN 1914 CERAMIC B 888 002 RAMMELL JAMES 32 JAN 1881 SOBRAON B 387 002
James died in 1914 & his brother Edward came out to see him/sort out his affairs.
James Rammell son Gibson B Rammell died 1914 in Drummoyne NSW Australia.
I do not know if James married or had any children while in Australia. He was single when he left. I would also be interested to know his occupation.
Also did the brother Edward (also single) stay in Australia? I can find no record of his return to UK.
Thanks in advance for any info you can add to my little story,
Gillian

PLEASE, Please do NOT post messages on this thread AND Cherilyn's thread, as we are both independent and will spend lots of time looking at the same sources. I want to help as many people as I can so please don't double up.
I have responded to some of you directly, please check your inbox. Some new requests are too vague, voluminous - I am not able to research entire families - therefore it is with some regret that some posts cannot be investigated due to lack of or excessive amounts of information.
When composing requests, please try to include parents' names where possible, even if the parents were not born in Australia. This helps narrow down searches.
Thanks for your understanding, Andrew

Hi Andrew, I have been trying to find a Joseph HIND born in UK 1815, married Emily Fowler 1845, had 5 children and went to Victoria in 1852 to the goldrush. Family history has it that he "went to Aust and never came back" Emily remarried. I am actually in WA, but have been unable to find any trace. Can you help, please? Regards, Daria Burnett

Hello Andrew - nice to meet you!! I have a relative, one Robert Breakspear who was sentenced to transportation to Australia for fourteen years on the 5th January 1833 - his co-defendent David Prior was also transported with him. They had allegedly conspired to send a threatening letter to their employer. I would love to know if Robert survived the journey and what became of him please. I have cousins in Australia and one in Sydney tells me there is a Breakspear pub near him, so I suppose Breakspears are there - I would be most grateful if you are able to discover anything for me please. I'm hoping that Breakspear being a fairly unusual name will be easier to trace!
Kind regards, Ann

Hi Andrew, I have an ancestor, Jane Harvey, who was born in 1840, Hobart, Tasmania. Jane's Parent's were, Thomas Harvey and Thomasine/a Matthews Bastian, both from Cornwall, Jane had a Brother, Thomas, born c1837 but I don't know if he was born in Cornwall or Tas. I wonder if you might be able to find anything on Jane's Parents, I have no idea at all why she was born in Hobart, but she and her Mother return to Cornwall at some stage as I've found them on Census but no Father or Brother. Any help greatly appreciated. Kind Regards, Ellen.

Hello Andrew, Wondered if you would be able to tell me if I am likely to find an answer to this.... I have an ancestor who was transported to Australia, I have the details of where he was sent to etc. He was transported in 1849 and returned to England in 1883 , he died in 1886 and was buried in the village where he came from. Do you know if there is anyway of finding what he did for the 34 years in was in Australia, or will it always be a mystery? If you think that there might be a chance of finding what he was doing in all that time I will send you the details that I already have. Thanks, Jane

Hello everyone,
I am back on this post for a few weeks, next term starts on 10 August, so I am able to take a look at a few more enquiries.
To those who posted on my thread since 2004, apologies for not being able to respond until now. I will tend to contact people directly, rather than publish results in an open domain that relate to people's families.
To those of you who did post recently, I will send you replies directly.
Best regards, Andrew Hunter
