Hi Shan, This is all new to me, have been researching since January, but must admit can't remember seeing your name up here. I do check quite regularly but find it difficult to get on in the day due to me looking after our very lively 2 year old little boy! I must say, that I am one of those people who only gets to visit the London office once a month and therefore am always requesting help of others on this board. I always say thankyou, but perhaps I ask for too much and am greedy for the info. I have become a family history freak since discovering genealogy and seem to be in such a rush to uncover all the hidden history. I do apologise to anyone out there that I have bombarded with requests. It's a shame it's taken a message like Shans for me to realise this. I hope you don't vanish from the board, you are all such stars it's unbelievable. Regards Angela |

hi shan, sorry , i think i have lost the plot ! if i can help with anything i do [ only have a bit of spare time, so dont help as much as i would like] if i need help i ask. even if no one can help , it is nice to 'talk' to people. when i help others, i really do not notice wether they thank me or not, i never bother to check. i do sometimes lose threads, if i cannot find time to check for a couple of days, whoops- they have gone. and i am a proper nosey thing, i do read all of them on records. i dont even mind doing 1881 searches, i enjoy it. aaaah now thats the word-enjoy .i am sorry if i am offending anyone, but sometimes people get upset on here, and i find that a shame. everyone i have 'spoken ' to has been lovely. i feel as though i have made friends, and keep in contact with several, by e mail. please ,rise above whatever or who ever as caused offence, just looking at my tree, i know life is too short. sue. ANGELA phillips- please dont stop asking for help, people have a choice wether they help or not. it would be a sad site if everyone stopped asking for help, thats what the site is here for .lol.sue. |

I sometimes wonder how many people read the following on the home page:- "Web resources Visit our updated links page. Don’t know where to start? Our guide to tracing your family history can help!" I wonder that because, by the question asked, it would seem most likely that they hadn't! On several occasions when I have responded to people asking for help, I have made certain suggestions to help them, and also referred them to this on the home page. I have been pleased to see that other people are referring others to the home page, too. Happy hunting to everyone enjoying their family history research. Joy |

Kia Ora Shan from way down under! I am sorry you feel angry and can understand it- just wanted to put in another side of the story. I look after a severely disabled mother, often inand out of hospital and I live in another time zone. If I put a request on the Board it is often at this time of the day while most of you I hope are fast asleep!! By the time I get back to the board my request is very often about Pg 10-15 especially at weekends. If I miss a day it has sometimes disapppeared ! I know now I can search the Achives but like last night I replied to Lindsay about 10 days after s/he had found my info because in the interim I had found a family member on this board - very distracting!! In the past year I have progressed further than in the previous 5. I am very grateful to all the GCers like yourself and hate to see people upset when they are so generous with their time & resources and advice . Come down under for a hollie - you can ski, swim in a hot pool under the stars, and get shook up by an earthquake - all in one day! Priororiterise what you are doing as Geoff says . I always try to help those who ask for NZ or Austn help and encourage those who have "lost" a rellie to look for emigration as a solution and I have had some very rude replies - I just delete the emails as usually these people disclose something which indicates to me they haven't done their homework! And I think they deserve to be left to swim all the way to hot pool which their ancestors probably enjoyed! Keep smiling and do what YOU want to do! Marlene |
