Leah, how old was Richard on the 1910 marriage cert? I can see his birth, no one on 1901 corresponds with the age he should be though |

If you were going to commit bigamy, it would be a bit difficult to marry both women in the same 3-month period, wouldn't it? You couldn't marry them both in the register office, surely as the registrar might very likely remember your name and face. If you married in church, it would be risky having the banns called. nell |

I'm going to have a look for him in 1901. I looked for Helena in Edmonton 1901, although I realise she may no have actually been there then. She'd be around 17yrs old, I have discounted helena Metcalf & Helena Flint. They did not marry Richard... although it seems half the female population of Edmonton DID! :¬O |

The thing is, if he was a bigamist, you would expect to find him listed twice. I would be tempted to ring the register office that deals with Edmonton and ask them to check the registers for him. They should do this as they only have to look in one quarter. Kath. x |

Smiley - Yes they are his parents but do not know where he was at the time of that census. Kath - that is why i am so confused a si have been checking on lots of different sites but can only find him once too. Nell - Kate hawkings married richard cobbin in edmonton so think the grooms that you mentioned are not the right ones. Thanks anyway. Anne - yes i am beginning to think i have a bigamist in the family. Also i said earlier he was my GG granddad hes not hes just my great granddad. Kate Hawkings marriage: Name: Hawkings, Kate Susan Record Type: Marriages Quarter: March Year: 1910 District: Bromley County: Greater London Kent Volume: 2a Page: 812 Bridegroom might be John Stone, but there is an extra lady on the page and no other man, so possibly her husband hasn't been transcribed yet. nell |

I have checked both Kate and Adelaide on 1837online for marriages. Both in Edmonton, 2nd qtr of 1910, but Kate is on page 952 and Adelaide on page 962. However Richard Wm, Cobbin is only on the index once. Kath. x |
