Sue I would love to help you but as she was born in 1901c she won't feature on the 1881 census or the 1851 index that I have. The best place to try for births for scotland would be the scotlandspeople site but it would help if you knew whereabouts in Scotland you think she was born. I did check my copy of the British Isles Vital Records Index for Scotland but nothing for an Ella Macdonald came up. Cheers Michelle

Mark I checked all the Robert's on the list but none of them are with an Elizabeth. I would guess that Robert if he died in 1942 could be single in 1881 and therefore living with his family so an idea of his age then would narrow it right down. Cheers Michelle

I can do 1881 Scottish Census look ups and also 1851 Census Lanarkshire Index (not full census). 1881 covers all of Scotland but are transcriptions not images. The transcriptions give you all the information from the actual census image so you will be given names relationship to head of household, occupation, birthplace, age and address - it is also possible to view the neighbours quite easily!! 1851 Lanarkshire Census Index covers 37 Parishes of the County of Lanarkshire excluding Glasgow Parishes.It will give Name, age Birthplace, which parish they were living in. I can also tell you who with the same name is on the same page which of course is likely to be other family members, but I can't tell you relationships, occupations or actual addresses. (I also have the 1851 Census name index for the parish of Auchterarder in Perthshire - Also Monumental Inscriptions for South Perthshire pre 1855 and Monumental Inscriptions for Upper Ward of Lanarkshire pre 1855 If these are of any use!!)
