I have the Portland Historical Records CD transcribed by K.V. Saunders. It has BMD, some wills, reconstructed families, 1841 census etc for Portland ONLY. Am happy to do look ups on it. I don't know. K.V. Saunders transcribed the records mostly because he has ancestry rooted in Portland (nice imbred lot they were)! I bought if from the Somerset & Dorset Family History Society. Yeah use Dorset o.p.c all the time ,am going to join the Dorset and somerset history group as have the meeting just over rd from me,so will have a look at what they have,I know this is alot to ask as hundreds of them on Portland but am trying to find John and Mary White she was born 1800 Abbotsbury know of two children Mary 1835 and Elizabeth 1840 born Portland also could be more no hurrry for it though Kazzie

Thanks Chloe thats brill I often wondered what happened to the Helyer guy as on 1861 Abbotsbury census hes down as Hollier Brodby then disapears so he was a White not a Brodby,can continue search for him now plus shows right ones thanks again Kazzie

Maybe not just seen he was dead by then maybe the Joseph Richard Hollyer Brodby was named after him,this is where gets confusing Kazzie

The marriage isnt theres have that as married at Abbotsbury but on their marriage said John White of Portland and knew they went Portland to live Kazzie

Could you please look for anything on Elizabeth and William Stone (she was White)I know they married 1868 and had a son William 1869 on 1871 census says she is a widow anything you can find would be great Kazzie

Nothing on the reconstructed families (goes up to 1844), or marriages in Portland. How old was he when he married Elizabeth? I can't even find the baptism of William Stone Jnr. The parish church baptism records seem to only go up to 1841, I'm afraid. Sorry I didn't realise..... most of my stuff starts at 1801. Is the White family I found the right one?? There are a few generations back on this CD too, if you want that. What was William's father's name? Might be able to see if there's more info.

All the info exept White marriage was right as they married Abbotsbury have no idea on William Stones dad only found them by chance when found the white mum living with daughter and family and then found the marriage anything on the Whites would be great trying to find Johns parents siblings ect but with so many Whites on Portland isnt easy,thanks again Kaz

Wow Chloe that is brilliant never thought would find the Whites it was John White and Mary Claxton that married Abbotsbury Bernard and this Hellier were obviously his parents as where the Hellier come into the Joseph Richard Hellier White comes into it gonna sit here and work it all now many thanks Kaz

Kazzie - remember that the reconstructed families might well be wrong, it is what KV Saunders thought went together. Maybe this John White and Mary Comben that he mentioned married moved away but he assumed that they stayed. Chloe

Just to say Chloe after telling another relative on the Claxton side about your find said she also had white conections and after checking a gedcom file she was sent did show it was Mary Claxton marrying a John White not Mary Comben so anything else you can find on these would be great,did you manage to find your Tobys?
