Police-ordershas an index of many Metropolitan policemen, though it is not comprehensive. You can search on it by surname or warrant number here: http://www.externalserver.me.uk:8085/ Info may include when they joined, were promoted, got a pay increase, or moved to another division, whether they resigned or retired etc. It will also have their warrant number. You can use this at Kew to look in the record books. Hello Helen L N Please, can you look for JACK LOADER I firmly believe he was a Sgt in the Metro Police sometime around 1920. The family used to live in Shepherds Bush. Also his father (I think he was his father) LEWIS LOADER was a Police Constable in London. I found him in the 1901 census with his wife Emily Charlotte. I think they lived in Islington Lon. These will tell you how much pay he was on when he retired, including allowances for children, wife's name, address at time of retirement plus forwarding address for his pension, as well as the amount of his pension. Glen If your relative was in Manchester, he won't be in the Metropolitan Police. The Met covered London as well as various dockyards. nell

I don't know if this period is covered, but I'd be interested if you could find my dad, Harold Ernest Hickin who would have joined somewhere between 1937 and 1940 Much appreciated

Hi Nell, If you are still doing these look ups could you look for someone for me? His name was Robert STEWART and the 1881 census lists him as a police constable living in Chelsea. He was born about 1827 and the family seem to have arrived in London from Ireland about 1860. Thanks for anything you can find. Liz

Elizabeth Nothing for Robert, I'm afraid. You can still find his warrant number but it means going to Kew. That's if he was in the Met (which seems likely as he was living in chelsea). He might have been working for the City of London police. Their records are: The City of London Police: Registers listing every member of the force since warrant numbers were introduced on 9 April 1832 together with personal files on 95% of officers who have served since that date have been transferred from the City of London Police Records Office to the Corporation of London Record Office, PO Box 270, Guildhall, London, EC2P 2EJ (Tel: 020 7332 1251) They were very helpful when I contacted them about a relative and sent me details of his service. nell

Hope I havent asked you for this one previously, could you please look up John Bawden for me, he was living at Nelson's Fields/Nelson's Grove in 1851-81 he was 27 in 1851, he retired from the police force sometime before 1881. Name may be mispelt as Bowden. Thanks Regards Christina
