Sarah, My 3 G.Grandfather was George Ridout who lived and died in Little Cheverell.He is as far back as I seem to be able to go at pres as the 1841 census shows him as not a Wilts man. I have his will, death cert and all his dates including a birth of about 1776. Having spotted your fische details today I live in hope that you may be able to help and that there may be a record somewhere. Let me know anyway, thanks,

REPLIES Helen - re Brokenbrow - A very unusual name?? Sorry, but there were none in Box in 1801 Irene - I'm fairly certain I got the fiche from the Wilts Family History Soc. I'm 100% certain they were not expensive. I bought them on a whim, and that's not like me!! REPLY Maureen - re Gibbons in Box (I would certainly keep gibbons in a box lol) The parish of Box was divided into five areas for the purposes of collecting the 1811 census. Different information was taken in each of the areas. The five 'books' are held at the Wilts RO under ref 'WRO 1719/78'. This is what I found in the transcript (all spellings are as shown) District 1 GIBBINS Mark (36) Hanna (34) children, 10, 8, 5, 3, and 1 District 2 GIBBINS Ben (with Jas LITTLE) District 3 GIBBONS Mark (lab), William, Thomas, Isac, George, Hannah and Sarah GIBBONS Thomas, Mary and Betty (with Thomas HANCOCK) District 4 & 5 - No Gibbons So it looks like Your Sarah is going to be either the youngest child in the first family, or the last person listed in the first District 3 family. In either case it looks extremely likely that her father was named Mark!! Looks like you will have to get hold of the parish reg's to work this out! Sarah

Tracy - re Lydiard in Lydiard Tregoze and Highworth. Amazingly, there was no one in Lydiard Tregoze whose surname began with 'L' at all!! No Lydiards/Lediards etc in Highworth either. Sorry. Sarah

Thank you very much for looking & for the info - I shall certainly follow that reference up. I would never have got that without you! I didn't really expect the Nevells to be there but just thought I would check. Well it would certainly be a challenge - trying to make the connection with Ann Sydney Miss World - but I don't intend to take it up! Highly unlikely I should think - no beauties in my family! REPLY Gillian - re Nevell and Sidney in Trowbridge. Only one family to be found I'm afraid. The good news was that the Trowbridge records are indexed so I had an (almost) alphabetical list to work from. The bad news is that the index does not include all the data on the original record. The missing info is the ages of the people in the households which are on the original record in the 1841-style 5 year bands. Unfortunately the 1821 census only has the names of heads of household, but if you need to know about the age bands for those in the household, you would need to contact the Wilts RO quoting '1821 Trowbridge census, ref 206/119 book one of six'. Hopefully, from that they would be able to find this family, who were living at an address called, 'Courts, Trowbridge'. After all that, here's the record! SYDNEY Richard, 2m, 4f Hubby says, are your Sidneys related to Miss Ann Sydney who won the Miss World competition in 1964??? He asks because he want's everyone to know that his brother was her boyfriend for a year or so after she won the comp!!! I could understand his bragging if he was talking about himself!!! Thanks for your offer Sarah - how exciting! My 3x g grandparents William Nevell (Neville) & Ann Sidney were married in Trowbridge in 1826. Could you have a look to see if you can find any signs of them? Gillian
