In response to this request: I'm new to this so please bare with me. I'm asking if you can search for my grandfather Charles Whitham who lived in Thorpe Hesley nr Rotherham. Birth certificate of my father states he was born in 1908 so I think that would put grandad at approx 1870-1880, he was married to Annie nee Percival and was a colliery labourer. Registration was in North West Rotherham. Regards Margaret --------------------------------------------------------- Hi Margaret This is a possible for the 1891C. Source information: RG12/3851 Registration district: Rotherham Sub registration district: Kimberworth ED, institution, or vessel: 20 Folio: 67 Page: 3 (click to see others on page) GSU Number: 6098961 Whitham, Annie abt 1869 Highgreen, Yorkshire, England Wife Kimberworth Yorkshire Whitham, Charles abt 1864 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Kimberworth Yorkshire If this is your Charles it would make your Grandad a bit older than you thought! There is a Florence Archer, age 1, listed as an adopted daughter on the image. Charles is listed as a Coal Miner so that seems hopeful. I think this is the same family in 1901C: Source information: RG13/4397 Registration district: Rotherham Sub-registration district: North West Rotherham ED, institution, or vessel: 24 Folio: 161 Page: 29 Household schedule number: 154 Annie Whittam abt 1868 Chapeltown Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Wife Rotherham Yorkshire Charles Whittam abt 1863 Walkley; Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Head Rotherham Yorkshire Colin William Whittam abt 1896 Rotherham, Yorkshire, England Son Rotherham Yorkshire Edith Annie Whittam abt 1900 Rotherham, Yorkshire, England Daughter Rotherham Yorkshire Eleanor Whittam abt 1899 Rotherham, Yorkshire, England Daughter Rotherham Yorkshire Emily Whittam abt 1898 Rotherham, Yorkshire, England Daughter Rotherham Yorkshire Florence Whittam abt 1890 Brightside, Yorkshire, England Daughter Rotherham Yorkshire Harry Whittam abt 1866 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Boarder Rotherham Yorkshire Henry Arthur Whittam abt 1893 Thorpe Hesley; Rotherham, Yorkshire, England Son Rotherham Yorkshire Florence is now going by the name of Whittam (or Whitham). I can let you have the images if you message me your email address. Cheers Kate |

I have been trying to find John Pratt on the 1901 census without any success. I have found him living with his parents aged 4 in the 1871 census in Wix Essex RG10/1681. In 1881 he is living with his sister at 252 Brockley rd Deptford london as a 14 year old baker's journeyman. His sister is Elizabeth Redman RG 11/0714 I think he is on the SS Lapwing in 1891 aged 23 as a steward. The age is right but he has his birthplace as Deptford London RG12/1402. I cannot find him in 1901. Be lovely if you could find him for me. Naila |

Naila Struggling as well on this one. I found a John Prat who is a baker/grocer but he is only 29 and it definitely says born in Stretford, Lancs on the image. He is married to Marie. Think I might be grasping at straws on that one. Sorry not to bring better news Kate :) |

Pamela Did you mean 1884 for your Grandfathers birthdate. That seems an awful long time after the wedding? There are a lot of Greens in that area. Can you give me any other info to narrow down the search ie: do you have any other census details, addresses, occupations... anything might help. Off to bed now but I will check the thread tomorrow. TTFN Kate :) |

Hi Pamela Sorry this took a while. This family are being a bit elusive. As you can imagine there are quite a lot of Greens out there. I have found a Robert Walter Green in 1891. The transcript gives his age as 49 but I think the image says 40. This puts his age about right to be G Grandfather. Sorry if you already have this. I was looking for a starting point to work back from but failed miserably L Source information: RG12/2404 Registration district: Aston Sub registration district: Deritend ED, institution, or vessel: 15 Folio: 36 Page: 19 GSU Number: 6097514 Green, Eliza Elizabeth abt 1852 Birmingham Wife Aston Warwickshire Green, Elizabeth abt 1874 Birmingham Daughter Aston Warwickshire Green, Ellen abt 1881 Birmingham Daughter Aston Warwickshire Green, Emily abt 1882 Birmingham Daughter Aston Warwickshire Green, James abt 1878 Birmingham Son Aston Warwickshire Green, Joseph abt 1883 Birmingham Son Aston Warwickshire Green, Robert Walter abt 1842 Birmingham Head Aston Warwickshire Green, Samuel abt 1888 Birmingham Son Aston Warwickshire Green, William abt 1888 Birmingham Son Aston Warwickshire -- I’ve also found what may be his widow and children (although there are a few discrepancies – James becomes Jane) in the 1901C. Source information: RG13/2925 Registration district: Solihull Sub-registration district: Solihull ED, institution, or vessel: 33 Folio: 128 Page: 13 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 70 Elizabeth Green abt 1852 Birmingham Head Yardley Warwickshire Ellen Green abt 1880 Birmingham Daughter Yardley Warwickshire Jane Green abt 1878 Birmingham Daughter Yardley Warwickshire Joe Green abt 1883 Birmingham Son Yardley Warwickshire Samuel Green abt 1887 Birmingham Son Yardley Warwickshire Walter Green abt 1874 Birmingham Son Yardley Warwickshire William Green abt 1885 Birmingham Son Yardley Warwickshire 1861C - I have checked all 15 Joseph Greens that came up with the keyword Aston but none were married to a Jane. I also checked for Robert Greens with a Birmingham connection but couldn’t find him. I then looked under the name Green (no forename) with Aston but again nothing. Very Frustrating. Sorry. If you do want the images for the above them PM me with your email and I’ll send it on. Kate :) |
