Jeanette, Any chance that you could check names of the WILSFORD family with whom Harry C SANDY was visiting in 1891? I think it could be a married name for one of his sisters ... Maria or Ellen b1864/1866 both in Clerkenwell. Cheers, Jx |

Jeanette, OK you've confused me now ... 3 messages ago, you were showing me Henry H SANDY in 1891 (I think) ... with a Cecil Lemon SANDY as a son. Who do you think this Henry is? We might have to verify on professions - the only 1862 birth in Clerkenwell is George William SANDY-the tailor. Where do you get 'Thomas' from? ... think I'm getting too old for this lark! Jx |

Jeanette, Yes, thanks, that's the family of George W SANDY in 1901 ... I hadn't realised that we had an apprentice photographer in the family!! Thanks for the confirmation of GW's occupation too. Can't believe all this wonderful info ... Jx |

Henry H I think is Henry C Sandy and in 1901 its his family the C on the Image could be T and 1901 it looks like Thos for middle name not H. Jeanette |

Jeanette, That's a good point - I'll do a recheck on George ... getting a bit mixed up anyway with all the wretched Georges! Meanwhile, could I ask you to revisit Henry H (or C) SANDY ... the one with the Cecil Lemon son. Because Harry C SANDY, the only likely candidate for this entry, is already visiting the WILSFORD family! The Clerkenwell birth location is compelling though - not many SANDYs and only a few born in Clerkenwell. Catch you in a min ... Jx |

Jeanette, You've given me the shakes now ... the only thing I can say about George W and the Clerkenwell/Marylebone birthplace is that the first time he's recorded without his family - in 1881/LDS site - it says London Middx for his birthplace. So I wonder if it was his grandmother (who died before the 1881 Census) who kept all the dates/details together - entries had been VERY consistent whilst she was alive, almost spookily so. Can you look at 1881 in a different way to what's on the LDS site ... mistranscriptions are frequent as we all know? Jx |

OK, thanks Jeanette, I understand the Henry thing now ... fancy having a 'Lemon' for an ancestor! Hi Sarah, hope you enjoyed Sainsburys! I shall have a closer look at George, but would really, really appreciate your views/advice very much - I've gotten too close to this over the past few days ... and George is the key to linking all these long losts that I've perhaps prematurely claimed! Jeanette, Yep, think I need some certs ... apparently this (presumed!) long lost cousin reckons that somewhere they have a marriage cert for grandpa (George William SANDY b1862-ish) and he's ringing me tonight. So we might find out for sure that he's the son of George Dangerfield SANDY - or not as the case may be!! So, shall we park it there for tonight ladies - and Reg? I am most grateful for your wizardry and your fresh pairs of eyes. From my point of view, it has certainly been very helpful to have you on my 'team' for a while!! May I post again tomorrow, if I can establish any further facts? Meanwhile, I shall wish you all a very pleasant evening. With kindest regards, Jane |

Dear All and especially Jeanette, How clever you are - I've done some more poking around and proved the discrepancy by finding George W SANDY son of George Dangerfield SANDY in 1881 .... under the surname of DANGERFIELD. The person I am now looking to trace backwards is also George W SANDY and these are his 1881 Census details: Household: Fredk.T. FOX Head M Male 34 London, Middlesex, England Boiler Maker Caroline FOX Wife M Female 39 Wavendon, Buckingham, England Amy C. FOX Daur U Female 5 m Paddington, Middlesex, England === Geo. W. SANDY Lodger U Male 21 London, Middlesex, England, Tailors Assist living at: 4 Stalham Street, London, Middlesex, England Family History Library Film 1341001 Public Records Office Reference RG11 Piece / Folio 0002 / 42 Page Number 26 Can anyone find him, hopefully with his parents, in 1871 or 1861 for me? There is a family thought - and it is only that - that his father was called William. The chances of finding two SANDYs with the same name in the same time frame are just so slim - I thank you all again for working with me on this. Kind regards Jane |

Can't find that one in 1871 or 1861 only the one I can find is with George D in 1871 and the death cert for George which you have got on this post. In 1881 as I have posted got G. Sand 1862 but Westminter instead of Clerkenwell perhaps send off for death cert so you can discount or prove that he is yours Jeanette update just read message about other George down as Dangerfield and just seen him in the 1881 census so we can discount one at brickyard then. |

Thanks Jeanette, He's obviously a slippery character ... perhaps he arrived with aliens, rather than was abducted by them?! I'll wait for my not-long-lost-cousin's auntie to come up with the marriage cert for George-the-Tailor W SANDY then see what his father's name is down as before risking more cash to the ONS! Will let you know the outcome - when it eventually emerges. Very many thanks & kind regards, Jane |
