Is it me or have three threads by the same person just disappeared? His name was Richard. Do you think he didnt like the fact that he was told that he could find the info for free on Ancestry? I know Reggie answered one at the same time as I did. Why do some people expect to get their trees researched by others? Do they think we get paid for this? Margaret |

Alice This sort of thing is one of the reasons why I very rarely do look ups now. I only do them if I'm extremely bored. Too many freeloaders on this site. If they cant even be bothered to look up info that if free to all, why have they started a family tree? Sorry, but my attitude is: if the info is free and you have been given all the details to look it up yourself, then do it!!! How else are they going to learn? Are they going to ask for look ups for ever? Margaret |

Probably they will Yes!! i'm bored so did it anyway. people who dont seem to get the answer they want tend to repost 'tommorow' anyway and see what other mugs are about!! |

Freeloaders are my pet hate. Spent hours at the archives for a member, 45 mile round trip and £2 car parking charges, sent them all the info and you can guess what I am going to say next........two months after sending the info have not had a response at all. If I was doing it for a living then would have charged £10 an hour plus expenses - they would have to have paid £70 for all the info I found for them. I also only now do only lookups when I am bored or need inspiration on finding my rellies. Maureen |

I thought I was imagining that I'd put responses on his thread! It wouldn't have hurt him just to say 'thanks' for the advice, even if what he really wanted was for someone else to do it all for him........... Reg |

How rude. Another one to add to the list of those not to help in future. Gwynne |

I have to admit, that this last few days, it has been a 'pleasure' to see 'you can lookup BMD's for FREE at Ancestry' in reply to many requests. Rather than giving the answer's! Unfortunately, these new researchers have not yet experienced the emmense pleasure of actually finding the information for themselves .... the elation and joy that that little bit of information can bring. I feel that many more people would experience that feeling if we continue to 'point them in the right direction' rather than do it for them. Elaine ;-) |

I remember a few months ago, there was a thread from someone who requested a look up, quite a complicated one. When told how to search, she replied with, I'm very busy I havent got time or patience to search through pages and pages. She was told quite sharply from members, that if she hadnt got time for that then she shouldnt be researching her family tree. I think her thread was deleted as well. I think this is half of the problem. they get the idea in their heads and when they find it will cost money and you cant research you whole family tree on the Internet for free in a couple of hours they give up. Elaine I remember stating that on these boards a few years ago. We should be advising people how to search rather than doing it for them and not even telling them how we found the info. I was slated for it. People said 'but we love doing lookups'. You dont spoon feed a child for ever, you teach them to do it themselves. Margaret |

Ozibird Some one a few days ago asked how to work out when someone was born from their age on the census. So, in answer to your question, NO!!! Margaret |

Err... would that be THE Richard? The one who is a teenager with Asperger's Syndrome and has trouble filling in forms to order certificates and tends to delete his threads and then start them over again? If so, try to be patient with him please. If it's somebody else entirely then sorry. I've not been on the computer all day. Kate. |

Hi I'm getting to the point where I am not going to help those who won't help theirselves and some people also think they can keep asking the same questions to see if they get a different response(maybe).. But they must realise sometimes it takes people a while to find these requested things and they seem not too care enough to even acknowledge you have done anything. I have a list in my head who have made me not too happy and I will avoid their posts in the future! LOL at me oohhh gonna avoid them I am Zoe xx |

I really don't think it's the same Richard, having had a rather close relationship with 'THE' Richard, I think I would have noticed ... and so would a few others !!!!!!, I'll definately be keeping a close eye out for the next few days .... just incase. Don't worry Kate .... Elaine ;-) |
