Been thinking. William Seymour died in 1902, this would have left Florence with 6 or 8 children. So far, I have not been able to find when William Peart (Heart) died. In 1907, Florence marries a Patrick Rooney (don't you love these surnames). I would be amazed if there was not a man on the scene for Florence to have coped financially. Therefore, I think that William Peart would have died 1906/1907 before Florence remarried... If anyone can find when William Peart died, I'll be very grateful! Regards Rachel

Wow! Thank you very much for finding that information on William. Its interesting that only the eldest 2 children were blind. I wonder if the other children's father is William Peart or William Seymour who is in the house in 1891 and was still there in 1901. Its also interesting to note that the youngest child, Joseph, is registered as Seymour (West Derby, June quarter 1900) and not Peart Still looking for William Peart's death as Florence married Patrick Rooney in 1907 in West Derby.

Hi Andrea A good find - I had seen William on the census in 1871 down as 'nearly blind from birth' also his Mother and Brother, so the 1881 is more than a good bet I would say. Gail. x

Have just got in and what do I find at the top of the list - saves me looking for it:-))) Name: Eveline Peart Year of Registration: 1886 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Liverpool (1837-1924) County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 14 I think this will be Eveline's birth (note not Evelyn) From the Lancs BMD site Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1917 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference PEART Eveline 0JEFFERSON Joseph S West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended Liverpool REG_WD/339/32 also in 1881 Name: William Heart Age: 21 Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relation: Pupil Gender: Male Where born: Much Marcle, Hereford, England Civil parish: Liverpool County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Street address: 22 Hardman St Blind School Education: Employment status: View image Occupation: Basket Making Registration district: Liverpool Sub-registration district: Mount Pleasant ED, institution, or vessel: 24 Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 3624; Folio: 43; Page: 23; Line: ; GSU roll: 1341868. now I know the name is wrong Heart instead of Peart and I know that in 1891 he says he's from Much Marsh (horribly mistranscribed) Lincolnshire but if it was my family I would think it was a strong possibility. Having looked on earlier censuses his mother and one brother were noted as partially sighted so blindness would seem to run in the family.

Hi Rachel Just to clarify - as Andrea found out - the Evelyn Seymour Peart marriage is not your family.......his parents are Harry and Marion if I remember right from Hull. So you can discount that marriage as it is not your Evelyn who was blind. Gail. x Just to show he is from a different family.............. The birth registration of Evelyn Seymour Peart - male child Evelyn Seymour Peart,1878 Q2 Hull 9d 245 1901 census for West Derby, St Cyprian, Lancashire Evelyn Peart Age: 23 Estimated birth year: abt 1878 Relation: Son Father's name: Harry Mother's name: Marian Gender: Male Where born: Hull, Yorkshire, RG13; Piece: 3489; Folio: 91; Page: 6.

Evelyn and Lucy Peart are in a school in 1901 - I have checked the writing on the census and it is a school for the blind. It could be that they went blind during childhood. Evelyn Peart is on the 1891 census as a child (daughter) and is on the 1901 census as a daughter born in Liverpool. I find it strange that in 1903 Evelyn becomes a he when a marriage takes place. Don't know who William (child) has put down as his father - will be requesting his marriage certificate. I wonder if the other children in the family were christened and if so, what surname they are registered under.... Rachel

At last a possible family that is stranger than mine..lol Possibly the male partners have not been transcribed yet, but there is a birth as you say for a Evelyn Seymour Peart, 1878, Hull - ..............................beg your parden Andrea she is a he in fact on the census... Tracked Evelyn Seymour Peart and he is in Hull on the 1881 with his parents, but they have all moved to Lancashire by 1901, hence the marriage in Liverpool. Gail. x

The Evelyn Seymour Peart who married is a man (married Florence M Ward) and was born in Hull. Two women marrying in the family would have been different lol

imp Report 11 Apr 2007 19:33

If there is no death for William Peart, then perhaps Florence was not free to marry again. Who did William (aged 5 in 1901) put as his father when he married as a Seymour. Gail. x

I am more curious than ever now as to why Evelyn would choose the surname Seymour if Florence did not marry someone with that surname. After all, wold you go round calling yourself Bloggs unless you were related to someone with that name?

Rachel

Rachel Report 11 Apr 2007 19:16

Thanks for that - its reassuring to know that I'm not going mad. Its interesting to know that the 2 girls were christened together. Is there anything on IGI about any of the other children - i.e. were they christened? Regards Rachel

The youngster will be registed in what ever name Florence told the registrar! if she said she was Mrs Florence Seymour, thats what was recorded. Do you know for a fact that the two girls were blind? ( 1891 doesnt mention it)

Rachel

Rachel Report 11 Apr 2007 18:46

If Florence did not marry William Seymour; why is the youngest child, Joseph registered with the surname of Seymour? Also, William Seymour (child) who is 5 in the 1901 census, when he marries, he has the surname of Seymour. Why would some of the children have one surname they used in marriage and others used a different one? Also, when William Seymour dies in 1902, Florence marries a Patrick Rooney; and in the registration book has Florence having the surname of Seymour. I'm getting a headache with all this! Rachel
