trying to find out more on my dad born Norvelle then adopted during WW2 to become Anthony Rex Burrows mainly of Dover born 1937.Adopted by Jack Burrows b1899 married to Florence whose sister gave them Anthony in the war for safety then was later adopted

My dad was born at Orpington hospital kent in ww2 as John norvelle in 1940 then adopted, his mother's name on the birth certificate was Edith norvelle, it seems very strange as norvelle is not a common name and to have two individuals born within close proximity in time and location. Any information would be welcome thankyou

Unfortunately Antony is no longer a member of GR, so cannot be contacted, and wouldn't be looking for replies here after so long in any case.

I don't see the birth of Antony's father - there's no Norvelle birth in 1937
[ EDIT: But see next post.]

Does your father's birth cert give any more information about Edith?

Trying to connect Antony's father to an Edith Norvelle - though the spelling's different.

There is the birth of an Anthony R Norvell (no E at the end) , with mmn Norvell, Registered in the first quarter of 1938 in Aylesbury.

Nobody else listed with them, so presumably the adoption didn't take place until later.

However, if that's the right couple in 1939, and if Florence's stated DOB is correct,
I can't see her birth.

Given the middle initial L in 1939, there's this possible death.
The DOB doesn't match what's stated in 1939, but often DOBs on the 1939 Register aren't entirely correct.

AG - have looked at the image both on Ancestry and FMP,.

Strangely, George is 'open' on the FMP image, but wasn't transcribed on either Rose or Edith's records.

If Louisa didn't die until 1932, then George is unlikely to have been legally married to a Ms Brown 1922-1924, when Rose and Winnie were born.

Confusing -

Edith's mmn is Robins in 1920,
Winnie's mmn is Brown in 1922, and Rose's is Brown in 1924.

But Louisa didn't die until 1932 - probably.

So it looks as if George may have taken up with a Brown around 1921.
There's certainly no marriage.
