I was confused ( ErikaH ) because on the 1939 register original image there is a date and ref. no. 31/12/51 ALA.NR230 .
Given that she didn't remarry and become Edna Willing until 1977 why is the date of surname change given as 1951?

to the best of my knowledge.

There's this George Roberts of about the right age in Chatham Street in 1939 - but not number 28, and with a different wife from the one on 1911.
Also a wildly different occupation. George senior in 1911 was a brakesman - though in 1939 it does say "Former heavy worker".

A man called Harold Starkie lives at no 28 in 1939 - nobody called Roberts.
