on the 1939 census Harriet Ann Barton was recorded as Divorced and was otherwise known as Una Hartismere Hughes,so 27th January 1912 St Pancras London a Una Hartismere Guerin 25 father recorded as William Henry Guerin (Justice High Courts) married William Walter Hughes 23 father Daniel Hughes recorded as Hotel Proprietor,in the 1918 and 1919 Electoral roll William and Harriet or Una are living together Wandsworth London,1921 and William Walter Hughes is recorded as married and living in Blackheath London with Margaret Jane Hughes (his sister) and a Louisa Mary Tanner Widow,upto to date I am unable to find Harriet or Una on the 1921 census,move on to the 1939 census and like I mentioned earlier Harriet or Una is living and caring for her Mum Sarah 298 Fulham Palace Road,1965 and Harriet is recorded in the Electoral roll as still living at 298 Fulham Palace Road ,13th June 1978 and on Harriet's death cert she is still living at 298 Fulham Palace Road and recorded as the widow of William Walter Hughes the informant was a David Hughes nephew of William Walter Hughes Loughor,Swansea.In the 1939 census and William Walter Hughes has been recorded as Walter W Hughes living at Talbot Road Oxford and he is a registra.
William Walter Hughes died 19/12/1967 living at 11 Talbot Road ,Oxford and on the death cert no mention of spouse and the informant was Daniel Hughes another nephew of William Walter Hughes.What I find a mystery is why did Harriet marry under another name and give another name for her father .

Looking at FMP, I think the Guerin chap was a figment of the woman’s imagination. No records for anyone of that name old enough to have been the woman's father.

You don’t seem to to have said whether you’ve done anything about looking for his name on any records

Guerin is French in origin, but quite prevalent in Ireland

This is from above 1921 census. It actually reads Cleaning Batyes (sic) Employer is Bateys, mineral water manufacturer in Munster Rd SW 6.

On Ancestry, she's mistranscribed as Elna H Gueren in 1911.
I've submitted a correction to her name.

Her stated birthplace is another flight of fancy!

Spouse info is not recorded on death certs of males, unless she is the informant.

I think you may simply have to accept that she was a stranger to the truth..................

More recently certificates for males mention spouse, but I don't know when that started.

A tree on ancestry has the BC for Harriet Ann Barton. She was born 25 Oct 1881 at 61 Farm Lane, Fulham. Father William Barton, labourer...mother Sarah Elizabeth Barton formerly Aldridge.

Her MC in 1912 has Peter Cornelius Eysberger and Jane Milbank as witnesses. Her address is 63 Albany Street and she is 25.
So same adress as 1911 census and witnesses from the boarding house.


Seems to me that she altered her age and her persona to fit in better with a marriage to a younger man with a very respectable job...clerk in the Court of Justice.
