In the 1901 census, my relation by marriage is shown aged 22 and married to Dorothie aged 21.

Robert's occupation is intriguing: "Secretary Thomas Preservation Society" and he is an employer. Research has drawn a blank.

Robert's place of birth is wrongly transcribed and should in fact be Grimsby, Lincolnshire. I have corrected it. I CAN'T BE SURE OF HIS DETAILS IN THE 1891/1881 CENSUSES since I don't know his father's or mother's names.

Dorothie's place of birth is incorrectly entered and should in fact be Ceylon.

I CANNOT FIND THEIR MARRIAGE ANYWHERE. They went on to have three sons before Robert died leaving Dorothie a widow by the time of the 1911 census. I ALSO CANNOT FIND DETAILS OF HIS UNTIMELY DEATH.

She is easily found in the 1921 census and also the 1939 register. I have the details of her death, etc.

Robert Percy Stephenson was born on 29 July 1879 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, his father, John, was 40 and his mother, Helen, was 37. He married Gertrude Jessie Dorothea Shand in January 1901. They had three children during their marriage. He died on 4 April 1947 in Hampshire at the age of 67.

His obituary in the Hampshire Telegraph 11 Apr 1947 has him as Mr Percy Robert Stephenson 67, of Sunnysands, Southwood Rd, Eastoke, Hayling Island, interred at St Mary's Church, Hasting.

He died on Good Friday and 3 sons are mentioned - Robert, the only member of his family present, and one son, an Air Commodore and another, a Naval Captain, both on foreign service.

EDIT Robert is described as the youngest son. Robert Percy had been in Eastoke for about 25 years and had been Secretary of the Hayling Island Yacht Club, had been a volunteer ambulance driver in WW1 and served with ARP in WW2. He was Hon. Secretary of Eastoke Estate Freeholder's Association, which he had set up and was a keen fisherman.

Is this Jessie (Dorothie?) why would you think she was born in Ceylon?
