Andrew, as a member Terence could still contact you and you would be able to reply.

Thank you. That is helpful. I did send Terence a pm as well. I will send him some info that I have in case my membership runs out before he can respond. Perhaps if anyone else knows him they could give him a prod.
Many thanks
Andy

Welcome to Genes and the boards.

Whilst Terence has been researching his branches of the Meads family for years it is quite possible that he will not spot your post.

Click on his name and send him a pm. Genes will notify him( assuming he hadn’t recently changed his email).

Be aware, however, that Genes never notifies anyone of new posts.

Hi. I just signed up for a month. My great grandmother was Alice Mead born 9 July 1904, and died on 14 March 1991 in my home town of Worthing, Sussex, at the age of 86. Happy to help if I can.

It is also possible that one or other of them was not very fertile ....................

my maternal grandmother had 4 children, born 1903, 1910, 1915, and 1925.

My mother was the eldest, and there was never ever any mention of still births or miscarriages, though that could always have been the reason.

It’s always possible there were other pregnancies or even still births in the gap between the youngest two children .

Who knows !

But they were all together in 1921 and indeed later because of the birth of Betty !

And still in 1925 when the daughter Alice Mary married

Thank you very much for all your quick replies.
I could not find confirmation of father Frederick's death and presumed he died during WW1. I wondered whether his wife Alice had re-married, and queried Ernest1921 surname as the mother's MMN would still be Andrews if she re-married.
It seems odd that there is a gap of 11 years before more children were born!

Also, I did notice a Betty Jawdynska (Mead) in the 1939 Register and presumed the other person was her mother, as the father was in an automotive occupation. But I could not find a death record for him. Perhaps he was unwell elsewhere and died in 1960, as Shirley mentions.

Again, thank you all for the extra information.
Terence.

names ............. I pondered that question last night and came to the conclusion that Terence had used Freebmd for birth registrations, and Ernest was the first child born (or registered) after Freebmd shows the mmn

So I think Terence thought that Ernest had been named Ernest Andrews Mead, not realising that it was in fact mmn being shown.

I tried to show that by posting the 3 birth registrations from GRO, which do show mmn Andrews.

I doubt very much that he has any idea..................

I know that is what he wrote but it didn't make sense if he was looking for a child of the Meads/ Andrews marriage.

Terence needs to confirm the actual birthdate of his Ernest.

That one was born in Bethnal Green and is there in 1921

The birth - posted at 03.59 - clearly shows MMN Andrews, which is what Terence said in his OP

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 18 Apr 2023 10:39

I read that as Ernest having the Andrews surname.

There is a death in Bethnal Green in 1922 of an Ernest Mead born about 1921 - Terence will need to get that death certificate.

Have you got Ernest’s birth certificate to prove he is Alice’s son? Because any child of hers born after marriage would have the Meads surname.

I don't know if Shirley (7.53 am) is referring to the surname or the christian names. Terence has a whole raft of threads on the Mead family.

ErikaH Report 18 Apr 2023 09:25

In 1939, Alice say she is ‘Married’………

The deaths posted by Shirley look very likely - they’re on freebmd

Where did you look?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Apr 2023 09:12

You say the father ‘seems to have survived WW1’ - isn’t that rather obvious, as he’s on the 1921 census. ;-) ;-) ;-)
