Harry Nowack seems to have disappeared from the scene between c1910 and 1915, when Ethel and her children are living with her parents. |

Did the children you know about all remain in New York? Widowed mothers often go to live with one of their children, which can sometimes take them away from their home area. |

Harry did die in 1946 in the Bronx NY (from SSN), can find no death for his wife, have tried all her used names, i would say she died in 1950s, no records in Bronx or any New York cemetery |

In his OP, Ian said Harry died 1946 - but I can't see any record of that. |
