To go further back than the records I've posted above, you'll need a copy of his parents' marriage cert, to see their ages and fathers' names.

Moss Benjamin's birth is probably one of these two:

As the marriage was in Poplar, this MIGHT be Esther's birth:

SOLOMONS, ESTHER mmn MITCHELL
GRO Reference: 1908 J Quarter in POPLAR Volume 01C Page 541

BUT there are lots of births of girls named Esther Solomons in various parts of London in feasible years. You need the info from the marriage cert to narrow it down.

Parents and siblings are on 1939 register

How does this man qualify as your ‘ancestor’?

Use the freebmd.org.uk website to find his birth, possible marriages and his death.

Once you have his death you can use the probate service to see if he left a will - depending on the date it may be listed on Ancestry.

If he was employed by the BBC they may have records.
