My Great-Nan, Ruby Mycroft (1913 Southwark, London - 1987) married Thomas Gardiner in 1934 Southwark.

I'm trying desperately to find information on Thomas Gardiner (birth / death / other). The family knows nothing about him.

Thomas could be of an age to be in the Forces already

A copy of the marriage certificate should give Thomas's age and if he knew him, the name and occupation of his Father.

We are told that Patrick and Ruby have different fathers, but can't be sure.

Unless the actual Father was present at the birth registration to admit paternity, then the Woman's husband would be assumed to be the Father and so the birth reg. details as recorded. The actual birth cert. will tell you no more unfortunately

From the GRO site - the Hampstead birth with no mmn showing. So rather than the coincidence of a Gardiner marrying a Gardiner, it would suggest the his Mother was unmarried.

Doesn't help with Thomas Gardiner - but posting for interest, and in case there's any family link. But I don't think there is. I think he's just a foster child in 1921.
