Find Ancestors

Hi I am looking for John Chubb, born in Bickleigh, Devon in 1811, and married to Mary, I think her maiden name was Packer but I am not sure. I am interested in anyone with any Chubbs in their tree from the Plymouth or Devon areas. I have tried a tree search but can not find anyone how is looking at the Chubb name. My grandmothers maiden name was Chubb.

There is an image on FMP of a Baptism of John Chub (sic) on 17 March 1811 at Bickleigh near Plymouth, parents Richard & Jane Chub (sic).

Which site did you use?

If you look at "Search all member trees" (under "Search" at top right of this page), entering only the surname Chubb and the birthplace Devon, there are lots of people listed, including many from Plymouth.

The only one said to be from Bickleigh specifically is a Charlotte Chubb 1804, who is in the trees of people named Ann and Edward..

An image on FMP of the Banns read at Chagford on 20 Apr, 4 May & 11 May for the couple, so perhaps the Stoke Damerel image is of Banns too. I suppose there is the possibility that the 4th & 11th dates should have been March!

Forget the Richard Chubb in Tavistock in 1841.

I see Maddie has posted the 1851 census for him, so he's obviously not the man who died in 1850.

Thank you for your reply. I believe John's parents were William Chubb and Sarah, although I have no proof of this and it was a long time ago I was told this and can not for the life of me remember where the info. came from, it was when I first started and did not keep sources of info., silly me. If his parents were Richard and jane it will open up a whole new avenue of searching. The baptism date makes sense to the birth date I have from Freecen. The first time I have found this family is on the 1841 census and John is not there just his wife Mary, who knows where John was?

The 1841 Census is not very accurate for year of birth as adults ages are normally rounded down.

There is this Baptism on FMP with Parents William & Sarah but note the Bickleigh is near Tiverton not Plymouth
