looking for some relatives my dads side, my Grandads name was Bert or known as Bertie Goddard, he was married to my nanny Elsie may aldridge, but was separated ,in looking for any of Grandads brothers or sisters children of grandchildren will be lovely to hear from anyone really and to know anything about my grandad as we never has his in our lives growing up ,would have loved too but it is what is was ,grandad was born 1909 and passed away 1985 .i also know grandad had a big family too ,he was one of 14 children .

Thank you all ,yes ive done lots of research im just trying to fine out where my grandad is buried and anything about him,we never saw my dads side only my grandmother elsie may gpddard she lived at willingham near beccles and her sister use to live next door to her,but as far as my dads father never saw him once groiwng up and i feel sad and gutted for thing know he was still alike until a month that i left school ,but im thinking about going to see an auntie my dads sister to see if she will talk about him not sure why my dad or aunties never saw him or why we wasnt aloud to see him ,so will find out soon i hope and get some answers from her,i used to live in Halesworth suffolk and to know some of my dads side was still 5 minutes up the road from me when i was younger its just very sad to know we must have walked passed as strangers ,we always saw my mothers side of the family,but i just need to find anyone from my dads side apart from my dads brothers n sisters and my cousind from them,so thank you to those whose helped xx

He may have been cremated and his ashes scattered, in which case there will be no grave.


Presumably the reason for your dad and his siblings not seeing their father was because of Bertie's split with Elsie.
It must have been a bitter separation, as she didn't want her children to have anything to do with him.
You may never find out the reason.

How would i find out prison records as ive be chatting to a New family member of my grandad berties sisters great grand daughters with has been so lovely,but found out which i knew he went to prison and at the same time his father Bertie had a heart attack,ive wondered if its worth emailing Norwich prison if they could tell me why he went to prison in Norwich ,ive found so much out but id like to know why grandad bertie went to prison i was told it was for not paying my grandmother child maintenance but it must be more that just that,

I’m not sure you can get prison records. Try looking at local papers.

I don't see anything on BNA.

If the stories are true, any court case must have been between 1946, when Elsie and Bertie's last child was born, and 1960 when his father died.

Refusal to pay child maintenance can result in up to 6 weeks in prison - so there may not be anything more to it than that.
