Thanks Maddie, Yes I do have those two census records. I now also have a problem. I had Henry's father as David but the marriage record had him as Thomas so it looks like I'll have to look into this further. :-(

Thanks all help much appreciated.
My starting point was with Nathan Bond Scott born 1864 MMN Field he was baptised 5th June 1864 in Orwell Cambridgshire son of Henry and Mary Ann Scott. I found the 1853 marriage, Henry Scott + Mary Field. Found the family in the 1871 census that AG posted above. Having looked at earlier census records for Henry (prior to 1853) I then found a previous marriage for Henry to Sarah Brown. BUT Henry's father was named Thomas on that marriage record not David David Scott married Susanna Bond in 1812 in Haslingfield so thought that this was where Nathan's middle name came from. so am confused :-( :-(

Henry's not with Mary Ann in 1861:
Mary Ann Scott in the 1861 England Census Name: Mary Ann Scott Age: 33 Estimated Birth Year: 1828 Relation: Head Gender: Female Where Born: Deptford, Kent, England Civil Parish: Hilton County/Island: Huntingdonshire Country: England Street Address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: View image Registration District: St Ives Sub-registration District: St Ives ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Neighbors: Household Schedule Number: 34 Piece: 980 Folio: 55 Page Number: 8 Household Members: Name Age Mary Ann Scott 33 Samuel Henry Scott 7 Joseph Bond Scott 5 Henry Edward Scott 4 Aaron Fields Scott 1
Is Henry's father named on his marriage to Mary Ann?
What makes you think that your Henry had been married before? Presumably the 1861 and 1851 censuses where a Henry Scott is with his Brown parents-in-law. Unfortunately, that Henry's birthplace is only given as Cambridgeshire in 1841, 1851, and 1861.
The Henry who married Sarah Brown may be a different Henry - UNLESS the clerk made a mistake with the father's name Thomas. I think you need to see the Scott/Field marriage cert - for Henry's father's name, and also his marital status.
Your Henry is the one born in Haslingden with parents David and Susanna, so Nathan's middle name is indeed from Susanna's surname.
Deaths Dec 1891 (>99%) SCOTT Mary Ann 64 Caxton 3b 261

One of William and Sarah's children:
SCOTT, WILLIAM CHRISTOPHER mmn BROWN GRO Reference: 1838 D Quarter in CAMBRIDGE Volume 14 Page 15
That family in 1841:
Henry Scott in the 1841 England Census Name: Henry Scott Age: 25 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816 Gender: Male Where Born: Cambridgeshire, England Civil Parish: St Andrew The Less Hundred: Cambridge Borough County/Island: Cambridgeshire Country: England Street Address: Occupation: View image Registration District: Cambridge Sub-registration District: St Andrew the Less Neighbors: Piece: 85 Book: 23 Folio: 10 Page Number: 14 Household Members: Name Age Henry Scott 25 Sarah Scott 20 William Scott 2 Mary Anne Scott 4 Mo
Thinking it over again -
As already shown, that Henry (the one with father Thomas) is with his parents-in-law and his children in 1861 and 1871.
But Mary Ann Scott is on her own with other children in 1861, and with her husband Henry (born Haslingfield with father David) and children in 1871.
Definitely a different Henry.

Thanks again to you both.
AG, Yes I agree, I do need to get that marriage certificate for Mary Ann and Henry.
It's looking very much like there were two Henry Scotts.

Problem solved!
Two Henry Scotts. I've just found my Henry Scott aged 30 born in Haslingfield Cambridgeshire in the 1851 census. Single, Draper's Assistant Lliving in St Ives Huntingdonshire where he marries Mary Ann Field in 1853.
