Having restarted my family research I'm looking for my Gt UncleCharlie. His parents were Charles Phillip Baker (born in Halifax, Yorkshire) and Marie Turner born in Suffolk) both born c 1876/77. They had 7 children Daphne Barbara, Raymond de Vere, Dora Muriel, Edna Adah, Vera Phyllis, Charlie Roeloff and Phillip E - who died in childhood. I have traced the siblings and found them on the 1921 census in Birmingham but no Charles. (snr or jnr) Alll I know is that he was in the army in WW2 and suffered from shell shock but when he joined or left I don't know. Charlie was born 1904 in Middlesex.. I have a lot of information about his mother and siblings. The family were in Croyden in 1911. I know nothing about his father Charles Phillip either - he isn't with the family in 1921.

I have those details but thank you, I found my grandmother mis transcribed on the 1921 census as Barker instead of Baker! :-)

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 12 Jan 2022 16:10

Which details? All of them?

Lynnedee

Lynnedee

Lynnedee Report 12 Jan 2022 16:16

No sorry ErikaH I was replying to ArgyllGran and then meant to delete but pressed wrongly. Sorry for causing confusion. I know Marie married Charles and in 1929 married Percy Wicks but know nothing about a marriage to Harry Davies unless this was for respectability purposes I dont know!?!

The details I posted were for the helpers' reference.

It's easier to understand details and possible connections when we can see the actual records.

The marriage to Percy Wicks - also for our reference, for location:

I know Charlie Roeloff did suffer terribly from shell shock and an elderly cousin of my father told me he had electric shock therapy, and was very badly affected for the rest of his life apparently. I didnt know where he was a patient so thank you,

So the statement on the daughter’s marriage cert is probably accurate.

Have you looked for a death?

Martha Davies is Harry’s wife, surely ;-) ;-)

Thank you ArgyllGran I understand all information can help with searches this is why I meant to delete. Sorry.
The other 2 children on the 1921 census are Daphne Baker aged 9 and Raymond Baker aged 5

ArgyllGran

So presumably - but not necessarily - Charles Philip was still alive in 1914-15.

Was Marie said to be a widow when she married Wicks?

Lynnedee

Lynnedee Report 12 Jan 2022 16:53

I did think Martha and Harry were the husband and wife of the household but not sure why my gt gran would be listed as Wife - presumably because her husband was about somewhere and therefore she wasnt a widow, we were told Charles P 'disappeared' and Gt Gran did 'moonlight flits' so family never knew what happened to Charles P. I think I came across a death for a Charles around 1926 but I'm not sure and must admit I haven't checked that in the last couple of days that ive started researching family again. Both grandmothers in my family were Baker and not sure if the death for Charles that i found death was on paternal side or maternal side so Id have to re-check

Lynnedee

Lynnedee Report 12 Jan 2022 16:54

yes she was down as widowed when she married Percy Wicks

According to both the hospital record and his enlistment, Charles R was in the RAF -
signing-on on 10th January 1923, giving his DoB as 2/6/03 - actual DoB 2/6/04

Next of Kin was his MOTHER, 47 Auckland Terrace, Kingston on Thames.
