Eunice did say that James's marriage to Joan was his second marriage.

However, if the story about 12 siblings is true, then the birth with mmn Berry can't be the correct one, as there is no other Disley/Berry birth.

On the other hand, maybe the siblings were half-siblings, or step-siblings.

Was James Disley Married before, as i have found a James Disley born 1935 Leigh Lancashire.
Mothers maiden name Berry.
His first wife was called Christine Waters, and they had 3 children,
Elain R Disley, 1963 Judith F Disley also 1963 and David James Disley 1966, all were born in Leigh.
He married Joan Bowden 1994 Leigh Lancashire.

Thank you all, I will speak to Joan once more and if she can't throw any more light then I will see if I can go over to where she lives at some point, and look at the marriage certificate, But its certainly a mystery!!! Than you everyone for your efforts and suggestions. I will close the three for now, but if I get anywhere with anything, will let you know.

It does look as though you do need the marriage certificate, as mentioned earlier. This should give his fathers name and it may be easier to trace him rather and use him to find James.

she knows I am researching the Disley's, but she has no information at all. As I said at the benign, what bits of paper she had, she passed onto his son from his first marriage, but he had also died and there is no one else to contact. I will ask her again, but last time she could tell me nothing - Jim was 81 when he died and his siblings had presumable all predeceased him. She knew he was "1 of (about) 12 but never met any....

Joan married Jim in 1994......I am only recently in touch so I havmt asked too many questions

I see she was still Bowden to 2010 so was the marriage later than that

I saw the one for Preston, but discounted it as she said he had only lived in Leigh. I have looked for Disley - Berry marriages in the Leigh area but not come up with anything so far.......how confusing....since there are hundreds of other Disley's in Leigh!!! Thank you all for your time x

Sorry, I was looking at 1926.

I can find only the one Disley birth with a mothers maiden name of Berry.

It was the one born 1935 who had been married twice

If you use the free website www.freebmd.org.uk you will find that two James Disleys were registered in Greater Manchester around that time, as well as several others elsewhere. By using the same site you may be able to work out which is the right one by looking for Disleys with the same mothers maiden name.

Get a copy of the cert of his marriage to your cousin to find out his father’s name
