Hi i was wondering if anyone can help me please, i am trying to chase relations on my mother's side. the one i am having trouble is Daniel Jeffs born 1796 London/Middlesex i have found 2 women married to his father Thomas Jeffs born 1759 one is Mary Seabrook and the other is Mary Nichardson both born in the 1770's and i don't know which one is right if at all thank you

There could be several men with the name Thomas Jeffs

Equally, he could have married more than once.

What DATES do you have for the marriages to which you refer?

When and where were the two marriages.?

It is possible that one of them was a second wife.

Hi i had Mary Nicholson married Thomas Wimples Jeffs on 31st December 1792 in St Marylebone London and the other was Mary Ann Seabrook married 1807 to Thomas Jeffs

Well unless the 1807 marriage was a second one it’s unlikely she was the mother of Daniel and Mary or ann if she was the elder sister

The Thomas Jeffs in each of those marriages signed the register.

Does anyone think the signatures are similar ?

I didn't think so .............

The additional forename makes one doubt that the marriage records are for the same man

The baptisms for Daniel and his sisters show only one forename for the father and the baptisms were in Hackney - not St Marylebone

WHERE was the 1807 marriage?

Have you looked for a marriage in Hackney - pre 1784?

The 1807 marriage was in St Lukes Finsbury, London

Have you looked at these different locations on a map?

yes i know these areas quite well as i was born in Islington, London
A it seems that Thomas Jeffs was named after his father it makes it awkward to work out which Thomas it is

i have been researching again this morning and have found that Thomas Jeffs Sr was married to Mary Young, this Thomas was born in 1860 in Hackney so maybe his son Thomas was born in 1786 and i am getting more confuse with Daniel's siblings now, maybe Thomas Jeffs Jr married twice to both Mary's thanks for helping me

Look at the areas of Hackney and St Marylebone - consider how far apart they are

Thomas Jeffs isn't really an unusual name - there were probably several, as I said before.

Sometimes it simply isn't possible to get all the info one hopes for - especially for the 18th century

What is confusing you about Daniel's siblings?

I would concur with Gwyn's opinion regarding the signatures - plus, why would the man 'drop' his second forename for one marriage, and use it for another?
