Unfortunately there are lots of Henry Smiths born c1837 in England (not to mention other parts of the UK) with father named William.
The fact that he was "late of Reigate, England" on his death notice on the other thread, isn't really any help. He may not have been born anywhere near there, but only staying there in the 1870s, as indicated on the other thread, in the 1873 notice of the sale of his property. "Henry Smith (Who is visiting England)"
You said he was born 22/5/1837 in Surrey.
Where did you find that information, please?

This Henry Smith below was born 22/5 /1837 -

The image is viewable in FS (near the bottom of page 26 of the range of records which are shown). The DOB is on the image, although not transcribed.
This is the family in 1841:

I don't see him definitely in 1861 - but that's not necessarily proof that he's the man who went to Australia, even though his father's name is William.
|
Well, in that case the DOB 22/5 /1837 is NOT that of the Henry who went to Australia - unless by huge coincidence.
It also means his birthplace is unknown.
ADDED: How do you know that isn't the right family?
Apart from the fact that his father's name was William, there seems to be nothing online to give any clue to his origins.

These seem to be the marriages some trees on Ancestry claim to be that Henry's:
Henry Smith in the London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1936 Name: Henry Smith Gender: Male Record Type: Marriage Marriage Date: 11 May 1861 Marriage Place: St James, Bermondsey, Southwark, England Father: William Smith Spouse: Amelia Jane Hughes Register Type: Parish Register
Bachelor and spinster. His father is William, gentleman. Henry's address: St Johns Horsleydown. [i.e. - Bermondsey ]
Henry Smith in the London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1936 Name: Henry Smith Gender: Male Marriage Age: 46 Record Type: Marriage Birth Date: abt 1837 Marriage Date: 30 Jul 1883 Marriage Place: St Mary, Lambeth, Lambeth, England Father: William Smith Spouse: Ann Blinman Child Register Type: Parish Register
That Henry is a widower, and Ann is a widow. Henry's a licensed victualler. Father William, deceased, gentleman. Henry's address: Kennington Cross [i.e. - Lambeth ]
In the 1841 and 1851 censuses posted previously, William is a broker.
So, assuming the Henry of the two marriages is the same Henry as in 1841 and 1851, born 22/5 /1837, he's definitely not the man who went to Australia.
