George and Mercy also had a child named Jesse, brother or half brother to Elizabeth Gammon May?
1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census
High Street, Aylesford, Malling, Kent, England
George May Male 31 1810 Kent, England Mercy May Female 34 1807 Kent, England Thomas May Male 14 1827 Kent, England George May Male 12 1829 Kent, England James May Male 10 1831 Kent, England Stephen May Male 8 1833 Kent, England William henry May Male 6 1835 Kent, England **Jesse May Male 4 1837 Kent, England** Sarah ann May Female 1 1840 Kent, England
No indication of George's occupation, unless he's meant to be an ag lab like the man above him in the census.
EDIT, I see Jesse was also on the 1851 census, as posted previously.by Shirley.
Henry, the four year old on the 1851 census, was baptised as son of George, a labourer, and Mercy Anne May.

May be totally unrelated, but there was a GAMMON family in Aylesford in 1851
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Old Bell House, Aylesford, Malling, Kent, England
Stephen Gammon Head Married Male 65 1786 Ag lab Boxley, Kent, England Charlotte Gammon Wife Married Female 55 1796 - Frittenden, Kent, England Theodora Gammon Daughter Unmarried Female 14 1837 - Aylesford, Kent, England Edward Twort Lodger Widower Male 74 1777 Ag lab Kent, England
Seems a bit old for Mercy Anne though. EDIT found a more likely candidate, living in Bowling Alley in 1851 see later post.
Can't find a George May's death between 1846 and 1851.
EDIT found one in July 1850. see next post
If it were me, I would be tempted to get the 1851 birth cert, to see if there is any more information on that.

Death of George????????
Looks like it might be slightly too early for Elizabeth Gammon May to be his posthumous daughter.
First name(s) George Last name May Birth year 1806 Age 44 Burial year 1850 Burial date 05 Jul 1850 Residence Aylesford Place Aylesford, Ss Peter & Paul County Kent Country England Archive Kent History & Library Centre
South Eastern Gazette 09 July 1850
Poor George seems to have been engaged in emptying privies, when the horses drawing the soil hutch he was riding on took off. Another man jumped clear, but poor George ended up under the wheel. He left a wife and, apparently, ten children.

Further confusion - I have found records namely 1861 census of Jesse Honey (1817) and Frances(Trice) Honey having a son John I P Honey ( 1847 -1873 ) But can find no other info. - do you suppose this is actually Jesse James Paul Honey ( 1847 -1873) who is listed as John JP / IP Honey age 14 - to avoid confusion with father or indeed was a pet name by family ?

Further - Found Jesse Honey in 1891 census - from Maidstone aged 21 and Mate of Barge living at 8 Solomons CT, Chatham as Visitor.
The Binskin Family live there with Albert King (Adopted)
Jesse Honey (1817) and Frances Elizabeth Trice (1825) had a daughter Ann Amelia Maria Honey (1856 -1921) who married Harry Enoch Binskin (1855 )
her sister Frances Elizabeth Mary Ann Honey (1851 -1887) died in child birth to Albert King (1887 - 1949) who was adopted by Ann and Harry Binskin so fits in with census detail.

1861 - I don't think it's been posted before - if so I missed it:
George May in the 1861 England Census Name: George May Age: 33 Estimated Birth Year: 1828 Relation: Head Gender: Male Where born: Aylesford, Kent, England Civil Parish: Aylesford County/Island: Kent Country: England Street Address: 3 Bowling Alley <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Registration District: Malling Sub-registration District: Aylesford ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Neighbors: Household Schedule Number: 201 Piece: 484 Folio: 67 Page Number: 29 Household Members: Name Age George May 33 - head, married, labourer in a brickfield Henry May 14 Elizabeth May 3 [ age is almost blacked out - could be 8, or scored out altogether] <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Also in the household, but transcribed separately, on her own, on Ancestry - probably because she's listed as "head", as is George:
Mary A May, head, widow, 55, field labourer, Aylesford

I did wonder if 'Bomb Alley', where the May-Honey household resides in 1871, and which only seems to exist in that 1871 census, is connected with 'Bowling Alley' where widowed Mercy May and family were in 1851, and, it seems, widowed 'Mary A' as posted by AG, and Elizabeth May were in 1861.
Henry May 14, in AG's Bowling Alley 1861 census, tallies with widow Mercy May's son Henry in Shirley's 1851 & 1871 censuses; I also posted his baptism previously showing he was the son of George and Mercy Anne May.
I suspect that is Elizabeth '8' on the 1861 register, though she was actually nine years and several months old at the time .
In the 1871 census, sharing no 2 Bomb Alley with the May-Honey household, but listed as a separate head of household,is 23 yr old unmarried Jane Honey, charwoman, and her year old daughter Jane.
