Thank you for information about Norah. Kucinta

Just to add, though it may have been said already, 'Norah' or 'Nora' can be used as a diminutive of Honora/Hanoria.

My grandmother was an Honora (from Ireland), and she was sometimes called Nora.

"I get no results when I search on Genes Reunited" -

Almost none of us who help on the GR boards use GR for researching records. Other sites are far better.
In any case, GR only has English births/deaths/ marriages.

"I do not get any matches with information you gave me Irish Genealogy"

Sorry, I don't understand this question.

The link you have given seems to take me to a page of deaths of women named Julia Riordan/Reardon who died between 1890 and 1910.
I don't understand why, as your Julia Reardon didn't die then, but possibly in 1935 - ErikaH posted a 1935 death on your other thread.
We know she was on the 1901 census.

If you mean the possible 1900 death of MARY Riordan which I mentioned in my last post, here is the link to it on irishgenealogy.ie:

https://tinyurl.com/2e8nu3nz

It's record no 243 on the page.

It's a pity you've posted such very long links, as that stretches the page out so that it's difficult to see things.

You should make use of this very useful site, which makes long URLs small - as in the one I've given you for Mary's possible death:

This reply really belongs on your other thread, as it's about Mary Riordan (see the difficulty with more than one thread?) but I'll post it here because this is where you have said

"On here I have left Julia Riordan's mum as Mary Riordan B 1830"

You're guessing again!

We know her first name was definitely Mary - but

a) We don't know when Mary was born, so 1830 can't be more than just a guess, and may be completely inaccurate.

On the other thread I suggested a possible death for her, in 1900 aged 75, with informant Julia Riordan, daughter..
If that is indeed her death, she would have been born c1825, unless Julia was mistaken about her age.

b) In the absence of any definite information about Mary, we have to assume she was married, so Riordan wouldn't be her name when she was born.

She should be on your tree under her maiden name - but we don't know what that was.

I suggested (again on the other thread) a baptism in 1855 for Julia, with parents Denis Reardon and Mary Loony.
But we don't know if that is the correct baptism of Julia 1855 or not.

ADDED:
Mary Riordan 1830 doesn't come up on GR in "Search all member trees". , although you say that's what you've listed her as.

I am waiting for Black Friday Sale to get a DNA kit from Ancestry as they and MyHeritage seem to be most popular. If I do Ancestry I can upload to more sites as you say.

ErikaH
On here I have left Julia Riordan's mum as Mary Riordan B 1830 I hope to see if I have real matches on here. Plus what you guys are saying.

I hoped to find relatives via DNA. My baby sister sent me and our other sister a DNA kit as a surprise. My sister's son wanted to do it so my let him.
Like and idiot I didn't collect anoth DNA on first kit so Living DNA sent a 2nd.
I didn't realise that my mum and aunt had both done Kits until I got my results. That was brilliant.
My niece had done her kit with MyHeritage and this sparked the family interest. She has now uploaded her results to Living. My remaining nieces and sister have had their kits since Xmas and don't seem in a rush to do them lol.
I was hoping to find LIVING relatives. I have a few of my matches as friends on Facebook
6th degree matches = 1
7th degree matches = 2
the rest are 8th (3rd - 5th cousin) and 9th (4th cousin or greater)

I also wanted to find our common ancestors so have again been trying to research my family tree.
:-D

Unfortunately they spelt Hanorah wrong
Spelling in Ireland at the time seems terrible and the writing is so hard to read! Many of my ancestors could't read or write.

I did say remote access. Some libraries allowed it prior to the pandemic and most if not all have allowed it due to the pandemic and library closures.

You cannot upload your dna results TO Ancestry from other sites, but you can From Ancestry. Ancestry still has the biggest number of users. I have my dna on 3 sites, the original Ancestry results uploaded to My Heritage and a fresh test with Living Dna.
They ALL give me different ethnicity. My best matches have been through Ancestry. Bear in mind that not many people put the results on gedmatch.

Once you get past 4th cousins results are considered to be very unreliable.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Jul 2021 12:17

When you can, get the birth cert for Hanorah - and her marriage cert.

Also, as I've said before, PLEASE read carefully everything helpers have posted on the threads and have a re-think about Julia Reardon..............the dates you have CANNOT possibly be for the same person

What exactly did you hope to gain from DNA testing?

Cork Genealogical Society
http://www.corkgenealogicalsociety.com/ is the group I found that wanted to charge 20 Euro.to become a member.
Just been on the phone with my mum searching for Cork Genealogy
found 2 Free sites
County Cork Genealogy
https://www.genealogy-of-uk.com/Ireland/Cork/genealogy.htm

County Cork, Ireland Genealogy
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/County_Cork,_Ireland_Genealogy

Library's are a good idea but for me I hardly leave my house so think a trip to library is out of my comfort zone.

MyHeritage allows to add loads of people at once to your tree when you get matches. The thing is I don't get matches for my Irish side lol.
Plus I found it causes consistency issues lol

I did my DNA with Living NA and got in contact with what it calls active members I have since realised that active/ very active isn't very accurate as it labels my Aunt and some other direct relatives as Active and they have been to the site 3x max with up 8th degree matches.
I got a a few responses. When we explored deeper swapped trees etc we couldn't trace my family or visa versa as we where too distantly related.
Living DNA are supposed to be bring out a Tree builder which should make things easier.

If you are considering doing DNA I would not recommend Living DNA as the chaged the way they process the DNA and it is not compatible with sites Like MyHeritage and 23andme etc.

I managed to upload my DNA to GEDmatch and got no end of matches but most are to low level to be of interest.
I joined several GEDmatch Ancestor Projects:-
England - Yorkshire Ancestors
Ireland & The Irish around the World DNA Matching
North East England DNA
The Irish GEDmatch Registry APed Ancestor Projects
I am trying to get in touch with potential family and also help build my family tree
.
I must have messaged well over 100 people from all the groups/site I am on trying to find relatives and expand tree. These message boards have been the biggest help along with one of the FB groups.
Take care and have fun Shell x :-D

I know that but it would save her money if she was able to use the Library services access when her sub runs out. She might even find that her local library service has FMP.

not only England, but the whole UK.

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 27 Jul 2021 09:44

I don't know where you are based but if you are in England it may be worth looking at whether your library service allows remote access to Ancestry.

Have you contacted anyone through your Gedmatches and have you tried the My heritage autoclusters? I found that last one quite useful. On both of those you can actually see where you dna markers match.

I am on Disability benefits. I pay for a subscription to MyHeritage , Ancestry and Genes Reunited and a one of fee of £20 to RootsIreland.ie I can not afford any more. So the answeres will remain hidden till I save up or get some cash for my birthday in September :-S

So you don’t wAnt to spend money on a sub to a site that might well give you answers but are prepared to ask others to use their own site subscriptions. :-S

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Jul 2021 08:41

You need to start buying copy certs if you want to make accurate progress.

Also to look carefully at ALL info………..

On your other thread, you’ve linked a February 1854 baptism to a July 1855 birth……which simply isn’t possible

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 27 Jul 2021 01:12

As I've posted on your other thread-
a record which some other Facebook user suggests to you isn't necessarily correct.

Same goes for the records we on GR find for you , of course.
