His mother was called Abigail (see 1841 above), so he's not the Thomas you're looking for.

Thank you A G for clearing up this for me, obviously it may have been a different Thomas Stopford in prison, mind you he had 3 months and a whipping for larceny, so learnt his lesson if it was him.The occupation of the father baffles me because on his brother Williams marriage ,states he was a bricklayer. With Thomas a spinner. Makes me wonder at times if locked on to the wrong family.

I have noticed on post above there was a Thomas Stopford baptised 17 Feb 1828, son of Abraham and Mary but he was not in the Stopford household on the 1841 or the 1851 census. I did find a criminal record in 1840 at Lancaster of a Thomas Stopford age 14 so wondering if this could be him. Also saw a record on Ancestry of a Thomas Stopford being deported to Tasmania but I am not updated to their website World records. If any one has access to world would appreciate a look up for me to see if it’s the Thomas Stopford in my Stopford family. Many thanks

Wow o Wow Erika I really don’t know what to think now, it certainly seems Abraham was a Weaver. I started out with Granville William Stopford my late sister in laws father killed 18th June 1944 over France in a Sterling with SAS on board all 23 were killed He was born 1919 Standish Gloucestershire. His father Arthur Stopford b 1893 Manchester, on his marriage certificate states his father William Henry Stopford occ Music hall Artiste who was born in Droylsden 1858 dist Ashton under Lyne, states father William Stopford occ Bricklayer, then as I found on the marriage to his mother Mary Beswick it stated Williams father was Abraham Stopford occ bricklayer so I presume this is the Stopford family I want

Droylsden certainly appears with the Stopford family I am looking for which I believe is in the district of Ashton under Lyne, also in the Manchester area. Perhaps we can all not be 100% sure where our ancestors originate from, unless we travel to see the BMD’s records in the church where we think they lived. Some years ago I went to the British section at the LDS library in Salt Lake City , Utah and saw some of the church records of my family on the micro films. while on holiday over there. I know they have micro filmed a lot of our history and have it stored deep underground somewhere in Utah.

Yes ErikaH I presume this is the death of Abraham Stopford, which makes him born approx 1805 which unable to find on Family Search

Sorry, I had not found the family in 1841, but I had found the names of the children on Family Search. Also found the marriage of a daughter Betty Stopford, with father Abraham his occ Bricklayer, which seems to connect with son William in 1851 census also a bricklayer by trade
