Hello, I thought I would give an update on the above. I sent for Thomas Walter and Catherine Alice's marriage certificate - it says Catherine Alice Keogh otherwise Beaumont married Walter Fawcett 4 March 1916. He is a private 22nd battalion DLI and in brackets a coal miner. HIs father is Daniel Fawcett also a miner. So I reckon the Fawcetts above are Thomas parents.

As mentioned I couldn't find them after 1919. Then I found a marriage for Catherine A Bowmont to Charles H M Smith 1928 at Chester le Street area so because of the Bowmont, I sent for the certificate as follows:

21 April 1928 Catherine Alice Bowmont (40) she has added a few years to her age, married Charles Hasting McGregor Smith 47. Catherine a spinster and Housekeeper and Charles a widower and is a plasterer. Address 52 Crawford Terrace, Birtley for both of them. Charles father is Samuel Smith deceased, a joiner. Catherine has now put Charles deceased as her father, (not Martin Keogh) occupation locomotive engine driver. Catherine Alice Smith dies 1933 Birtley. See the 1939 register for Charles below.

1939 Register
3 Quigley Terrace, Birtley, Chester-Le-Street R.D., Durham, England

Charles Smith 19 Jun 1879 Male Plasterer (Unemployed) Widowed 157 1
Charles M Smith 21 Sep 1904 Male Labourer (Unemployed) Married 157 2
Eleanor A Smith 22 Apr 1907 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 157 3
Matthew Smith 29 Mar 1918 Male Miner Pony Driver Single 157 4

So where is Sylvia Clare who was born 1919. I found a death for Sylvia Clara Bowman for 1925 aged 5 so I took a gamble and sent for the death certificate. She died on 20 February 1925 at Gateshead Childrens Hospital, cause of death something to do with her lungs, I can't read the writing. My heart sank when I saw her father was George Bowman BUT her address was B26 Crawford Terrace, Elizabethville, Birtley, the same address as Charles and Catherine. The informant was Charles Smith again of B26 Crawford Terrace. I think Catherine married Charles bigamously and passed Sylvia off as a relative's child.

When I googled Elizabethville, it was an area of Birtley built to house Belgian refugees at the start of WW1. It was split into sections A - D. At the end of the war in 1918 when the Belgians returned home, the local population moved in. It's an interesting article for anyone interested in history.
