Hi,

Could anyone help me find more information on Mary Jane Edith Cozens Married to Francis Etherington, records show they married in 1902 , mother and father of Edith Maud Eleanor Etherington born 1908 in Guildford (she married James Peters).

As the Francis I found who had a daughter Edith was married to a Kate in 1903 so unsure if this is the same Francis or....i think they got the name wrong in the 1911 census...

It was Francis who filled in the 1911 census form - so "Kate" isn't a mistake.
Kate must just have been what Mary was known as in the family.

Perhaps this is Mary ???
BUT father is not a station-master as stated at marriage, and apparently without the middle name Thomas in any record, although certainly deceased by 1902.

Perhaps a flight of fancy, along with taking a couple of years off her age ???

Re her father's supposed middle name Thomas -

there is no death of a John Thomas Cozens (or variation of spelling) of a likely age, anywhere in England/Wales, 1870-1902. .

The only John Thomas Cozens (or other spelling) I can see in the Kings Lynn area is one born in 1859 - so highly unlikely to be Mary's father, as he was only 11 in 1870.

so I know my Mary married an Etherington and her maiden name is Cozen, so I don't think its this Mary Ann woman but a Charles James Nunn was a witness to Mary and Francis' wedding going by the information shared on this thread.

Plus was John Cozens wife a Harriet or Hannah?

also did John Cozens end up in prison? as he is mentioned as inmate in the census?

Which census? And have you looked at the image to see where he was an inmate? It more usually is the Workhouse

In the 1891 census which I posted, John (by then a widower) is listed as an inmate of the Kings Lynn Union Workhouse. The transcription posted above says so, and the image says the same.

John's wife was Harriett, as shown in the 1861 marriage record posted above, and the 1881 census, and her 1890 death record.
The 1871 census above calls her Hannah, but that will just be a mistake on the part of the enumerator.
